For any decent result, he will need a help from his coach, some decent teamplay and at least 4-5-6 players on form in his team.

If Messi alone was enough for titles, Barca would have more than 1 CL title in the last 6 years with Barca and more than 0 NT trophies in his career.
This is not an individual sport.

With your logic, Barca would never drop points against Leganes, Getafe and similar as long as Messi in our team.

I never said he would carry Argentina to the title, but that he certainly could, major distinction. The Argies usually don't leak many goals at these major tournaments and if Messi can find a way to create one or two goals out of thin air they have a shot. This is assuming his partners in attack don't miss sitters like they usually do and Argentina remain solid defensively.

To your point about us only having 1 CL title in 6 years, a lot of that has to do with the fact that Messi has crapped the bed and flopped in the knockout stages of the CL in recent years with a few exceptions of course. With Messi firing on all cylinders we would likely have more.

The World Cup is a 7 match long tournament at the longest and any team with the caliber of player of Messi has a chance to win it.
