This distance isn't as big as it was in some seasons. I'd say MATS is pretty close. His heroics in some games were incredible.

Mats isn't a outfield player . Yes he has been heroic . You need that don't you ? . In 2013 we had Xavi and iniesta . This season it has been pretty much Messi alone in creating goal scoring opportunities

If Atletico lost today, we would've won the league. They would be 12 points behind with 4 games to go and we have a better head to head record against them, so in case of a draw, we would've won.

Anyway about Messi's playtime when we win the league... If he wants to play, play him. If he wants to rest, rest him. But in any case we should give Dembele, Paco, Mina, Cillesen and maybe even Alena a lot of playtime, with or without Messi on the pitch.

Liverpool has a entire system and players feeding Salah . Here Messi is feeding Suarez and still is competing with Salah for golden boot . Unreal . No record book will showcase these facts years later . He will become first player in the history to win 5 European Golden boots if he wins it

Not just rest. But motivation, concentration, realising that CL is a competition that needs different preparation than a league type tournament. In the league you can get away with not going fully fit or not going fully prepared in a game. You can get away at Eibar for letting the opponent dictate the game too much. In CL you can't. Even teams like Roma have players who can hurt you if you don't show up. It's the manager's role to make sure that this doesn't happen and that the players are physically and mentally ready to face these pressure games.

Well if what Messi said that he would trade all his personal achievements for a World Cup is true then I think he'll 100% focus on the World Cup after he wins the league. If I were Messi, I would use the remaining time that I have to work with Sampaoli because this Argentina team is far from being favorites and he will have to use whatever time he has to work with players who are already done with their season to build up their team chemistry and understand better the tactics of the coach. I too want him to win the Golden boot but there's still time for that in later seasons while this World Cup is the only time he has to win while being in his prime.

Will he cover for the horrendous defense lead by ottamendi ? . Defense win you titles unless your team has the gas to put 3-4 past quality teams , which Argentina doesn't have . Sebella realised that and played defensive football with Messi as the soul force upfront in 2014 . As a result they reached the finals which their 2006 squad couldn't do . That's their only chance . Play shitty football and scrape through to the semi final somehow and fluke it like Portugal 2016 , Greece 2004 , italy -1982 , Chelsea 2012

I think a lot will depend on who is playing with him up top. If he has in-form Aguero next to him, anything is possible. I just pray that Sampaoli doesn't take Higuain to the WC as a 1st choice striker. In that case, it really is all on Messi's shoulders. But yeah, in any case, Messi will need to play amazing football at the WC, but even if he does that, can his teammates make profit out of it?

Just because one is a favorite doesn't mean that they are 100% guaranteed to win. Not a lot of people expected Portugal to win the Euro 2016 or that Roma will beat us after we have a 4-1 lead. Argentina has a slim chance compared to the other favorites, but it's still a possibility and that doesn't mean that he should/will give up on it. As I said before, this is his only chance to win the World cup in his prime while he'll have other opportunities to win the Golden Boot and I'm betting that he'll work on the former with Sampaoli.
