If there is one thing in football I don't care about, it's Ballon d'Or. Totally irrelevant. But saying that Ronaldo was the best this season is laughable.

The Ballon D'or has always taken trophies into account though; Cannavaro was nowhere near the best player in 2006 for example. It's possible to win it without the CL or international trophy as Messi showed in 2010/2012 or Ronaldo in 2013 but only if the gap in individual performance is big enough.

If Messi can win the WC then that would change my opinion on Maradona being the best ever. It's best to evaluate Messi vs Ronaldo once they have ended their playing careers but CR7 winning three CL's in a row and overtaking Messi with 5 CL's would be quite a feat.

Messi has been the best player in the world since 2008 (when Ronaldo was). He had a fairly big dip in 2014 and I don't think Ronaldo was great that year either. He was useless at the World Cup and bailed out in CL final by Ramos and Atleti won the league.

Ronaldo having 6 ballon d'ors after this year is ridiculous. He doesn't deserve most of them.

What a bullshit! Messi should have also win 2013 and 14, from 2006 till now he has been the best player. Even if salah or cr win the cl or world cup, still messi was best in la liga and Cl.

I remember thinking that he was much better than Ronaldo even in 2008, at least much more impressive on the field with his dribbling etc. So, based on performance, he should be getting his 9th this year. Sadly, the people voting for it are emphasizing the CL way too much, and I don't think they watch enough games. If you watched all of Ronaldo's and Messi's games, it should be clear that Messi is much better.

Even 2008 Ronaldo won it due to John Terry falling over in Moscow when he stepped up to take the winning kick after Ronaldo had missed his. Torres was unlucky not to win it that year. He was sensational for Liverpool (carried Liverpool to CL semis) and won the Euros for Spain.

As good as he's been there'll never be a luckier footballer.

Today's match has huge significance on the Ballon D'or, if Leo and Barca can beat Real Madrid, then it'll lower their morale going into the final with Liverpool and could they lose it, which would give Leo the Ballon D'or. Not to mention it will keep Barca on course for the La Liga Invincibles too.
