Ballon D'or probably already gone but last chance for a big splash in the club season to end on a high after the misery of Madrid with the CL again and the Roma hangover.

no way ritchie the ballon d'or is still at play, even if Cristiano has outplayed Messi in the CL he still has to win the whole thing, Cristiano was ghost in the Bayern series.

I still believe in natural order, there's no reason for Messi to bow down to Cristiano when he's 2-3 years younger.

we are out of the champions league so there no point in resting messi, he should play every game until the end of the season so we remain unbeaten in la liga(we won la liga and cdr) since thats all we have left to play for. no team in la liga has done that so we should be the ist team to do it and i don't think any other team will go unbeaten all season again to have a record no other team will do would be nice

meh the WC should be his main priority, Messi needs to be at his best in the WC not against mickey mouse teams in La Liga

not sure why so many people act like winning the Cl single handedly decides the Ballon D'or; the only year that was arguably the case was last season. Even then, Ronaldo had an almost unparalleled performance in the CL knockout stages, scored a number of key goals at the end of the season to clinch La Liga for Madrid, and had somewhat similar goals/assists stats to Messi over the course of the year.

If Messi has a very good World Cup and start to next season, that would probably be enough to go along with La Liga/CDR unless someone else has a historic World Cup winning performance

If Ronaldo has a great final with a couple of goals, the BD votes will be skewed in his favour. But since it's a World Cup year, Messi still has a chance, although I won't hold my breath looking at the current Argentina team.

One thing that can be said in Messi's favour on the International Stage is that Ronaldo has never played in a World Cup Final, the biggest game in world football, nor has he won a Golden Ball for The World Cup Tournament, both of which Messi achieved in 2014 world cup.

Messi had a terrible end to 13/14 season in all competitions and won no trophies, while Ronaldo won 2 trophies, scored the most goals, and had an incredible start to the 14/15 campaign. Ronaldo's 2016 Ballon D'or was also mostly down to the Euro win as well.

2014 the only year since 2008 that Messi arguably wasn't the best in the world as he struggled that year. 2010 you could argue Iniesta and 2013 Ribery. Ronaldo was great around 2011 and 2012 but Messi was unbelievable then. Ronaldo is winning all these ballon d'ors when he's even declined. It's a joke.

Pretty straight forward.

Neymar would have an outside chance if he did a Maradona 86 and single-handedly led Brazil to the title. If Brazil win it but Paulinho and Coutinho play a big part then Neymar won't get it either.

Considering that Liverpool have a 5 % chance of winning the CL final and Argentina have a 1.5 % chance of winning the WC, it's obvious what's going to happen.

its sad how an award that used to be prestigious is being handed out to a player who performs B d'or worthy for 5-6 games per season, doesn't even need to turn up until January.

I'm bored of the same Messi vs Ronaldo shit every year and most people i talk to couldn't give a damn about the ballon d'or anymore. 'its just Madrid/Barca biased' is what i hear and I'd agree. if Messi doesn't seem bothered about not winning it neither should Barca fans, anyone with half a brain knows who the true GOATs are, the only debate is if its Messi or Maradona.
