I have chance to calm down from game and my feeling toward Messi is he will never be Argentina, never true Argentina, he is Spanish not Argentina. He should play for Spain maybe he actually try then.

whole country is criticise Messi and he deserve it.

Go and retire like last time because we know you don't care about us

You might have calmed down but you're still not thinking straight. How can you blame Messi when it was mostly down to sampaolis midfield selection, playing 3 at the back and Croatias midfield being far superior. And yere countries inability to produce a top keeper. And even mid game substitutions were ridiculous. It was clear yere needed banega or lo Celso but he decided to bring on a like for like higuain for aguero

He runs that much in a lot of his best performances too. It doesn't make a difference. I'm not saying he played to the best of his ability or even close, but even if he had how would that make him more available for passes that the midfield is incapable of playing?

What are your thoughts on his game vs Iceland then? I think he did the most he could by being the entire midfield and sole source of forward progression, just failed at the penalty and couldn't get a good strike for any of his longshots at the edge of the box (some of which were very close). Today the idea was to place him more forward so he could attack the defense, and that thoroughly failed because he couldn't even get the ball. My point is that there truly is no approach with these lineups besides Messi dropping as far back as possible and starting every move.

The only hope would've been players like Lo Celso, Pastore, Banega, etc. who can actually create things. Too little, too late now tho. I don't think Nigeria can break down Iceland's defense so Argentina are all but out now. It'd take some very big surprises for them to qualify.

1) Running does make a difference. Especially running more. At the very least he could look like an incensed Lass Diarra who doesn't know what else to do with himself at times.
2) For what I've seen in the Iceland game it's been the opposite of the Croatia game. He received the ball, ran with it, squandered every other break. Difference being only the teammates who knew how to find him. Not that much of a difference.

TBH at this point in time I think he's incompatible with who he has around him. There is no convincing people of the fact that Messi is perpetuating the problems too - he's not a leader, he's a star, an ace in the hole, but not a leader. It's mindboggling that he is picked as captain. He is consistently the first to hang his head and give up, whether for Argentina or for Barcelona. He gives up. As a leader he's not allowed to. Any team's captain shouldn't. Simple.

His problem is he's so fucking lazy, When teams park the bus, he CANNOT go moving away from the ball behind defenders.

He's not being man marked, teams have switched on if you cut the supply to him, he becomes completely ineffective. When he does have it that's the time to crowd him out.

Argentina are at their lowest ebb in decades, but Messi's complete lack of effort is fully deserving the critisim. If Nigeria do Argentina a favour today then Messi has one last shot at redeeming himself, cause his performancesa and attitude over the past week have been nothing short of disgusting from the apparent 'best in the world'.

Exactly. They're just cutting the angles from which to pass him the ball because his off-ball movement is so static.

Salah's still affected by his injured is Egypt's only threat, yet he did a far better job at least trying to get onto the ball than Messi has these past two games.

Introverted people will never be good leaders. That's why players like Iniesta or Messi are not captain material and Ramos and Ronaldo are. Their personalities can't be more different.

It also doesn't help that the pressure he receives from his country is suffocating. In Argentina people don't actually think about building a good team, they truly believe that there is a player who is above his teammates and can carry them to glory. Sampaoli just said that he picked not the best XI but the best players who can facilitate Messi's job. Sampaoli just adds more pressure on Messi while for example the Portugal coach is the opposite. He has claimed countelss times that before him or Ronaldo there's the team.

Yep. Toxic country.

Also applies perfectly to Barto, so no surprise he's cowered from it all for the good part of last 3 seasons in cup competitions.

lol

Dumb coach choosing Higuin over Icardi. Benching Dybala.

Similar to Lucho and Valverde in thinking he knows something the rest of the world doesn't know.

Plus the epileptic goalie and lazy Messi with his walking Barca defense in contrast to the rest of the low talent/brain team pressing their butts off.

Messi's the only star in this World Cup failing, look at Brazil and their Golden Boy Neymar coming off an injury lay off, who scored today and they'll be through to last 16

Neymar shining? Get a grip.

Coutinho is Brasil's best player by a mile so far.

If he had worked hard joining the rest of the team in pressing, maybe he wouldn't needed to cry after every WC game.

His arrogance and laziness is his own down fall.

I don't think so. Remember the run he made in behind the defence against Iceland and took it down but his shot was blocked. There was another one last night where the ball was just out of reach. I also saw him making two of those runs last night but the midfielder was too slow to see him and ended up passing sideways. Those type of runs are more for the out and out striker like aguero but I didn't see too many from him. Maybe he was making them but the midfield was a backwards and sideways midfield. People forget Portugal and Ronaldo did nothing to this Croatian team in 90 minutes in the euros. Difference was they had a better keeper and defence and scored a scrappy extra time winner
