Neymar is not playing better than Messi in the world cup. He is backing from injury and was awful in both games. The difference is that in both games Coutinho saved his ass.

In the case of Messi is impossible to blame him or even analyse his performances because Argentina is not a team.

One thing driving me nuts about him is that he thinks he HAS to play deep and start getting the ball in midfield and then move forwards, his teammates are like, ok let's give the ball to Messi and move ahead or if they set up an attack by all themselves Messi would be far behind them and probably miss the chance of being there in time to put the ball in the net. For example the goal Countinho scored today, he tried to get himself into penalty area and succeed to score, I bet Messi would've watched the ball turning away and his team miss the chance.
This shit started after 14/15, he has to STOP thinking he should play deep and need to put himself into 18 yard box more often.

Pretty sure he doesn't want to drop back and he doesn't until its 30mins in and the team wasn't able to even get the ball to him, not even gonna talk about them getting the ball to the penalty area

He thinks he has to drop deep because he knows he has to drop deep otherwise there is zero creativity, just watch Argentina without him

I agree, the goal Coutinho scored today, I'm not so sure Messi would have made that run. He only seems to make that run in when it's one of those obvious 1-2's with Alba / Iniesta or an orchestrated move to get him a return ball. The run and hope aspect of his game is all but gone I'm afriad, and that basically means you're going to score a lot fewer goals.

Exactly. How people can't see this is beyond me. All the other top teams midfield are able to get through the lines to their attackers. If Messi had just stayed up there last night he would have touched the ball less than half the times he did and would have gotten more stick

While we can make arguments for Messi in pretty much all other games, I wouldn't use last night as a reference for anything, because he did absolutely nothing. He didn't really initiate anything by coming deep (because he didn't bother even moving away from his marker to receive a ball) and nor did he plant himself upfront and hope for a pass/lose ball. He literally did nothing.

Did you not notice there was more than one around him. I saw on a few occasions last night when he did have a little space to receive the ball and was calling for it it was passed sideways. I guarantee banega would have made the pass

Introverted people will never be good leaders. That's why players like Iniesta or Messi are not captain material and Ramos and Ronaldo are. Their personalities can't be more different.

It also doesn't help that the pressure he receives from his country is suffocating. In Argentina people don't actually think about building a good team, they truly believe that there is a player who is above his teammates and can carry them to glory. Sampaoli just said that he picked not the best XI but the best players who can facilitate Messi's job. Sampaoli just adds more pressure on Messi while for example the Portugal coach is the opposite. He has claimed countelss times that before him or Ronaldo there's the team.

Agree, that is why Portugal was able to win EC final without him. They have a great coach, who made a good team.

Also agree with the leaders part. Leader is not necessarily the best player on the team, but he should be the most though and loud when neccesery. Also....cool under preassure. Mascherano is that man in
Argentina, even though he is way past his peak as a player.

What was funny about the game last night is that I had visitors and my 9 year old niece was saying to me why is that man walking while the rest were running? I kid you not. I and my brother started laughing because we knew who she was speaking about in like an instant.

Fernando Niembro one of the most influential journalists in Argentina

[tw]1009939824344748033[/tw]

He said: Messi is the manager of Argentina, he chose his friends and this is the result. Leo, you are the best player but you played without heart. Stop with your friend Mascherano, Sampaoli and his contradictions. Long time ago you retired from Seleccion, wouldn't bad if you do it again.

I think he said some bullshits but unfortunatelly this is the general sentiment about Messi right now in Argentina for what i'm reading on social media and argentinian newspaper's website.

Enjoyed watching Leo's career, sad to see Ronaldo piss all over him and his legacy since 2015 Copa America choke.

Reality is nobody is too bothered about La Liga or Copa Del Ray. Ronaldo has been winning the big prizes and making a huge splash on the big stage (World Cup).

Looking like a tragic end to Messi's career because he's dragged down by a declining Barca and Argentina.

The only positive thing for Leo that could happen is if Portugal and Ronaldo don't win this World Cup, no matter how many goals Ronaldo scores and even if Arg go out in group stages. It will still be extremely difficult for Portugal to win it with a shaky defence, conceded 3 v Spain and were poor v Morocco. Then everyone will still say they both haven't won a world cup yet, but if portugal win it then it's game over

Believe I am not only one blame messi, whole country blame him and manager too. This country never really have full respect for Messi and now it even worse. Maybe I'm not think straight because it still hurt but Messi is to blame too.

He missed penalty which would win game and if we win the game the whole feeling is different. He didn't try against Croatia, I bet if he play for Spain he try a lot more.

And in national anthem it is being shown a lot here over and over he has head in hands not even respecting the national anthem!!

At least Meza and Perez try, Messi have no sweat after game.

Never will be Argentina, never
