If Ronaldo did not have extraordinary teammates in the Euro final, then what did he have? He owes the Portugal squad his entire international-career legacy for the performance they made against France.

He also owes a lot to Deschamps for being utterly useless.

They need to start lo celso, dybala, banega. No matter what sampaoli thinks, he needs big names in squad, a bit of fear factor and to relieve some pressure from messi. Put some solid defense, mascherano, lo celso, banega in the middle, and dybala messi higuain(aguero, di maria) in attack. Or something like this
Guz
Otamendi mercado mascherano rojo
Banega lo celso di maria
Dybala(messi)
Messi(aguero) higuain(aguero)

Ffs go all out attack

These things are decided by minute details. ALOT had to fall into place for Ronaldo and Portugal to win Euros last time around. Going as 3rd, while needing goal from Iceland that scored in 93rd minute. Even as a 3rd, they had much easier way to finals where Ronaldo didnt even play. Yet they won.

Last WC, you had Ronaldo having a nightmare of cup, they went out in groups behind USA and Gana. Yet no one is saying shit about it now...what happens if Argentina goes ahead? Messi scores 2-3? Suddenly he is different player? BS...Its literally decided by minute details and luck, the longer it goes, more luck evens out, but to say Ronaldo had no luck in last 2-3 years is laughable. He had all bloody luck in the world in last Euro...Its almost incredible.

Not what he is saying and doesnt mention big teams just that for Messi to be very good he needs 'extraordinary' team mates while Ronaldo doesnt.
I agree. In that sense, Diego Costa is better then Messi as well. You just need to nick one ball into box and he might score, like Ronaldo, Messi doesnt have that.

Plus, its not like Ronaldo was out in group stages ever. Last WC never happened, and last Euro, where they went as 3rd team and still needed last minute Iceland goal to go ahead never happened. He got to finals, played very good match against Wales and average ones against Poland and Croatia. They won final without him playing...

Messi went to 3 finals. If he was injured and they won all 3, is he different player then he is now?

Portugal won Euros like Chelsea won the CL in 2012. No matter how important a game is it's still football and we all know the winning team is not always the best of the tournament.

There is something wrong with Messi, something personal I think. Every newspaper in Argentina is saying no one knows what is wrong with him, I think rumors of him divorcing are true.

He also owes a lot to Deschamps for being utterly useless.

With that logic, Messi won Cls in 2009 and 2011 against naive Ferguson who gave a free ride to our midfielders with his tactics.

It seems that all Rm's wins are an easy draw, ref's mistakes, individual mistakes etc.

Yet, people forget Chelsea in 2009, Ferguson's midfield, Barca not playing against thugs in some winning Cl's seasons etc.

We also had a fair share of luck, opponent's mistakes, easy draws, late lucky goals etc.

Ok, maybe Rm and Cr7 had even more luck, but still.
It sounds as if we have to face 100s obstacles all the time, while they have a free ride.

Maybe those obstacles are our tactics, mental strength, complacency?

There is something wrong in the whole team. Did you see Sampaoli at the beginning of the match? He looked like someone holds one of his family members as a hostage. Messi and the other players, same.

Also, Sampaoli fielding a worse team than 99% of people with a bit of football knowledge (everybody, including couch potato fans) would, stinks badly.

When you field Gignac to win you Euros... Deschamps is a useless coach.

Everybody has luck. We had tons of it in this season alone. Again you are making an argument out of nothing. You just desperately need to prove a point, even if there is not one.

I think there’ll be a bit more space for him in this game because Nigeria also need to win to give themselves any chance of going through. Don’t forget that. It will be a much more open game and both teams are going for the 3 points, so its a given there’ll be loads of space for him to exploit compared to the match against Iceland.

I’d like to see KUN, Dybala Higuain and Messi start together in attack with Masch and Bagena/LoCelso behind in midfield. Also no Willy in goal please. His tournament is done. I’m not in favour of Masch starting for them at cb because I don’t think he can keep up with Musa. That guy is insanely quick. Fazio might not be a good option either, considering the speed Nigeria has up front.

The predicament though is playing Messi at the 10 spot means he has to at least put in a shift on the defense which he seems inwilling to do.

some pals said the same thing! the hostage thing. Could explain Caballero's blunders. He almost gave it away twice at the 20th min. mark, the shit tactics, starters and MF who kept passing the ball backwards.

or maybe just some fight between Samp and a few players at the pre-game pow-wow _ :argue:_:bash:_:surrender:

The whole Argentinian team looks so disjointed and uncomfortable. Beating Nigeria is probably going to extend their stay in the tournament by one game can't see them going any further. Think most teams would fancy playing them to be honest.

Probably it is the reason for that leaked line up.

That is at least a group of players that have played together through the years for most part but too old a side.
