I only remember Messi missing a couple months back in late 2015, and then Neymar and Suarez pulled the team exceptionally well. Other than that, no Messi has meant us being a bit crap.

I also remember the 2008-2014 period, we struggled a lot almost whenever Iniesta was out.

But yes, in the past few weeks, the rest of our players have somehow raised their level immensely in Leo's absence. They realized that if a succession of poor performances/results were to come with Messi out, then questions would be raised for virtually every single one of them.

We haven't played any worse without him. When you consider that and fact Valverde is scared to omit/rest Pique or Rakitic sometimes, even when playing poor opponents.. :facepalm:

I kinda see why people crisisise Messi when the team is struggling.

You can see it in Argentina and us too when Messi is not playing well usually the entire team does not play well despite having immense individual quality.

I'm not sure why this is the case but as a leader I don't think he us very good like Puyol was in motivating the squad to lift their levels up and sometimes he sulks which can rub off on the team

His body language in the world cup was very poor.

Again this isn't a critique on Messi and he is the GOAT but just some observations I've noticed and I can kinda see where some people like Maradona are coming from.

No real proof of this. Inter are average and real were terrible when we played them whereas Roma were very good in the olimpico last year. Remember we beat Roma 4 1 at home with Messi playing and not scoring

Inter aren't average they are breathing down juve's neck and are 2nd in serie a and we totally outplayed them in both matches. Real are bad but they aren't bad enough to receive a 5-1 thrashing from us without messi. How many average teams from la liga have we destroyed with that much of a goal difference?
