10 - Lionel Messi - V6

Talent is so much more than strait line pace and stamina. Vision, touch, control, quickness, understanding of teammates, and of opponents. Messi may not be quite as explosive (quick) but he still is hands down the best player in the world--sees things others don't see, executes things just about none else can. Odds Mpabbe matches him as a player is like 1/50. I do think Mbappe has a decent chance to be on the level of Neymar in talent and accomplishments, or maybe even CR7 & Ronaldo (Brazil). Messi is another level of impact on the pitch.

Don't agree with comparison.

Leo is born to play football.
He won a lot of trophies and awards (personal and with team), but the most important thing is HOW HE SUCCEEDED TO DO IT, with not human actions.

Total respect for Mbappe' (really a monster!), but he bases his playing way mostly with the speed and he is not able like Leo (no one in the world).

I have difficulty to think football after Messi retirement.

Just because Mbappe has better physicality and stamina/pace does not mean he's a better talent then Messi.

There's is a lot more to the game than just physicality and Pace. Maradona was 5'5, not the fastest yet considered one of the top 3 players to ever play the game along with Messi and Pele. Look I get Mbappe is possibly generational talent but trying to use Stamina, Pace and Physicality as an argument for being more talented is not really the best idea.

Well thats a funny way to put it - i didn't want to make this all about Mbappes better physics and therefore having a greater talent. All the other stuff i mentioned before does count as well. But i do think that will set him and Messi apart at least later on in his career. And for now, the amount of goals, assists and general play he has shown since his first season with monaco at age 17 - performing wise he is in my humble opinion above Messi at the same time. For god sake he was a star / profile player for france winning the wc title at age 19. Being deceive in big games. I can maybe agree on if messi put in mbappes position (playing for same monaco side, psg and france in this time) he would perform just as well or maybe even better, because Messis stamnia/pace/etc was more than enough to fully show his talent in his younger days, now in this stage of his career he is more dependent on having the right players and the right set up to lack for his physical flaws. Just imagine messi with off ball movement the last 5-6 years, he would be mental. And i do think mbappe won't have the same problem later on. I can see him playing games as a ronaldo poacher if needed, or wing on either left or right side, supporting ST or even OM.

The true star of France winning the WC was their defense, IMO. Umtiti and Varane made it possible to play ugly non-posession style football and they both scored crucial goals in the playoff stage. But nowadays, the defenders don't get the spotlight.

Convince me otherwise.

The true star was Griezmann tbf. Also notice - if you haven't - I wrote a star player(/ a profile) not the star. Just like Suarez was a star player in our treble season, not meaning Messi wasn't one.

Don't know what to do with your comment. Do you want me to argue that mbappe was better than the out put of 2 players? Because ofc he wasn't. Do i think that mbappe performed better than umtiti or Varane and being a more vital player for frances success in the WC? I don't know.

I can't believe my fellow barca fans to be so biased devaluating Mbappe to be simple hit and run player. Like his game is just pace.

In the grand scheme of things, he's got a lot more than pace going for him. Put him next to Messi, though, and he pretty much is Usain Bolt with studs on.

Can't believe you don't realise that Mbappe has NEVER played against quality bus-parkers (peak Atletico). In the WC, the biggest Simeone-style team was... well France. That's why Mbappe and particulary Griezmann were playing like they did. But it all starts with quality defense.

And, don't tell me that there are quality bus-parkers in League 1...

Messi did it all. And had scored and assisted against all types of teams. You are looking at Leo as a poacher and undermining the playmaking skills of the greatest attacking player of all time. Plus you are forgetting what kind of goals Messi scored is his prime. Border-line unrepeatable.

Mbappe cant prove himself until he does it in another league, I watched PSG vs Nimes and woooow, Nimes was playing so open, it was like a training match for psg, they should have scored 7-8 more goals, mbappe missed a couple of great chances. Ligue 1 is just trash, if messi was playing i ligue 1 he would score 3x what he is scoring in La liga.

p.s I think Mbappe is a great player, has a great future, but it is way too early to be comparing him with Messi and Ronaldo, they were playing in extremely better leagues at his age, and dominating those leagues (specially messi)

this is also why i dont think PSG is going to win the CL anytime soon, going from a game against Nimes to playing Europes top dogs is just too different in level of intensity, they arent used to it

No I see Messi for what he is, and where do you see me looking at him as a poacher?

Maybe he will get the chance vs ATM this season. And we can take it up then.

They did play great against a inform United team. They actually totally outclassed them in the second half. Biggest favorite for the title is ATM anyway, if they don't have bad luck with injuries.

Mbappe has a chance of reaching Ronaldos level of ability and goalscoring but Messi is an all round genius and that can not be taught

Yes, the ligue isn't good, but mbappe has still proven him in the champions league and for the national team.
