BBZ8800 it could have easily been 3-0 or 3-1 last night if it weren't for the upright. This 4-4-2 is not better defensively or not significantly anyway.

We got lucky last night. Move on.

Per the stats we concede 0.11 shots per minute in a 4-4-2 and 0.13 shots per minute in a 4-3-3.

Ousmane Dembélé was arguing that hitting the post has nothing to do with luck, it's just misplaced shot. If it is luck this means that we been been unlucky all season long because we hit the post like 30 times in all competitions this season.

I don't agree with him on that.

If Dembele is so shit/injured/panic buy he can't play even when we desperately needed a goal and nothing was working then why did the faultless God Valverde allow him to grace his holy bench in such an important game?

The mental gymnastics Valverde apologists come up with are are astounding.

That's what I was saying, many times we could have finished the game off early and win with bigger margins, but instead we got unlucky because we kept hitting the post, well now I guess we getting our luck back.

I have no problem with that but anyone arguing that 1-1 was a fair reflection of the game needs a reality check. Chelsea outplayed us, like Eibar and Alaves before.

RM were struggling against teams like Levante and Girona, La Liga isn't easy. Do you think it would be better if we played against teams like Dijon or Amiens and trash them 8-0, 7-0?

No. My argument, and some others here, is how a working 4-3-3 False 9 system was abandoned but this on its last legs double pivot variations are being vehemently stuck with despite it resulting in numerous players playing out of position (Paulinho, Iniesta, Coutinho, Paco, Gomes) as opposed to just 1 in the 4-3-3 False 9 (Suárez).

Dembele needs to start performing against teams like Getafe, Girona or Las Palmas before you put trust in him against Chelsea or ATM. Until he proves he is 100% ready Valverde decision is absolutely understandable.

Coutinho panic buy? Come on...seriously?!

Valverde need to start playing him first.

Didn't give him any minutes last Liga game either.

lol we conceded 11 goals in the league and 2 in CL. 15 goals since the Supercopa.

4-4-2 is miles better defensively than the 4-3-3.

Yesterday Willian hit the post twice but they were only long range shots. When we were playing 4-3-3 we were open to counterattacks, yesterday Chelsea tried them with Willian and Hazard and they didn't have a single shot in the box.

Well,it’s true that you cannot throw an inexperienced player in such an important match, especially when he has barely played 4-5 games as a sub the whole season.

However, this player will never be ready, unless he gets proper chances to find his rhythm and get familiar with his team and the system.

EV should give him more and more chances from now on,or else we threw 105M in the garbage bin.

Conceding goals and defending shots are 2 very different things. Ter Stegen is making about the same amount of saves per game now as he was last year. 2.5 vs 2.8... The only difference is he is making more saves per goal this year.

That we conceded less goals is due to god mode MaTS and not some myth that a 4-4-2 is better than a 4-3-3 defensively.

Next time you make a statement like that be sure to check the facts.

4-4-2 is better defensively with how slow our midfield is.

Busquets, Rakitic and Iniesta are snails and would get torched if they leave more space behind.

With the 442 you have Rakitic more central with Busquets and deeper so an extra man behind.

Doubt we can play a 433 with Iniesta and Rakitic now. One prob have to go, if not both, but both should play on merit so you have to find another way, solution.

Next time you make a statement like that be sure to watch the matches too.

We concede a lot of shots but mostly are outside the area and with a low probability that they will result in a goal.

There's a difference between conceding long range shots like Willian yesterday and conceding this kind of chance that 90% of the time is a goal: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rzdpCoDV38Y

I was thinking the same if played last years Lucho's team with 4-3-3, what would have happened? Neymar, Messi, Suarez would have been losing the ball in dangerous areas and all the defensive work load would be on Iniesta, Rakitic and Busi. It would have been a disaster.
