It likely has to do with him being raw on the defensive end of things.
Even if that's true it's bullshit that Valverde is to much of a chicken shit to actually move away from the so called defensive shithousery that we experienced yesterday. in games like this fuck defending deep this is Barcelona, we aren't a team that is built like Atletico and even Juventus that can comfortably defend deep.
Hmmm, regardless last game, I think we really need to think about the Dembele situation with more depth and the state of the team under Ernesto
Truth is, when EV signed, he was promised to get Verratti along MSN, he found himself with no Verratti and Neymar with Deulofeu and Paulinho as their replacement.
Dembele was signed as a replacement for Neymar, but he didn't have preseason, got injured when he just became starter, came back, got injured again. and hell even when he came back he had personal issues (parents getting divorce) all that along the fact that he is a 20 year old kid who has many holes in his games that need refining (despite undeniable talent) and the fact that he is moving to new country and tougher league while not even speaking its language
EV had no option but but building a more balanced team, there was noway we were gonna improve on offense so he gambled on defensive approach and it worked well for most part
We got Dembele & Coutinho in midseason but midseason signings rarely improves the team and rarely fit just in time (that isn't hindsight,I'e made that prediction when everyone thought we are in our best shape after signing Cou in midseason) and it is really tough for coach to just throw away all what he has build during the season. We kept the defensive approach and Dembele was one of those who suffered from this consequences.
We can blame EV for sure, he has plenty to be blamed for. But honestly speaking, expecting anything useful from Dembele this season was really unrealistic. even just expecting the coach to trust him more than EV did might not be fair.
