Dembele doesnt track back with a any consistency and Semedo goes walk about too much.

He was decent enough on ball.

Yep. Their work ethic leaves a lot to be desired but I’m glad that Semedo is at least getting his attacking game sorted.

I expected a bit more from him today to be honest, but having Suarez screaming at you for every little mistake sure doesn't help. Personally wouldn't have taken him off, and especially not for Alcacer for Christ's sake, who has to be one of the most anonymous/irrelevant strikers around.

The Paco substitution wasn’t a bad one. The problem was that the wrong player was taken off. Valverde should have taken off Suárez, move Denis to LW and since Coutinho was driving play today he would have moved into the midfield.

Or he could have kept Coutinho at LW and used Denis in midfield whom at this stage is more positionally aware than Coutinho for a midfield role.

Paulinho is at his best as more of an AM where he can press and provide options for Messi. While adding a bit more physical presence.

He never really goes box to box or looks great at that in my opinion.

Well He did score some goals early in the season making those late runs or popping up and considering today Busquest and Rakitic played like shit, wouldn't have hurt to try him? When you're losing badly, whats the point making no change?

Yeah, when Messi was playing False 9. He could then join the attack with more freedom when Messi dropped back. It happened in the Villarreal game too. There was no Messi today so there was very little chance that he played in a 4-3-3.

When you bring on a player like Paulinho in midfield who likes to get forward you can often find yourself exposed if no player drops back. Suárez can’t play in midfield so it would have been lose-lose in my opinion because Paulinho is not exactly great on the ball and there was no Messi falling into midfield.

We can afford to take such risks with team's like Levante especially towards the end when they were content with just not conceding.. whats the worse that would've happened?? we would've still lost ??

Valverde is stupid, it has been explained to him many times that Dembélé is not very good in a 4 4 2 but he insists again and again. It's good for his mouth.
