He tried tonight, the boy really did but when he failed one too many times he started hiding. Almost nothing came out right for him. Disappointing performance to follow up his first Barca masterclass midweek. We need patience. 2 more seasons before he's a true beast.

I doubt he can be our main player in the future,in my opinion it suits him better when the full focus is on someone else, like Messi for example. Of course it's too early to say this but it just seems to me like can't be the one to carry the team forward

Why would you replace dembo who had an excellent game vs villareal for paco in a game we needed to win?

Because till now in Barca's shirt, ALL Dembele's good games were in matches where he had lots of space for counters and for running with a ball in his feet for 30-40 meters and dribbling through defenders.

Whenever an opponent parked a bus, Dembele more or less hadn't create anything till now.

Basically, for now, against parked buses:
1. if he gets the ball around the box on the right side: he can try to run a few meters and cross. But since we have short players, crosses aren't a good idea
Or, he can do the same and play a backpass to the edge of a box for Messi, which is predictable.
2. he can receive the ball (without running for a few meters) and just pass it back in the middle to the edge of the box where Messi or Iniesta always wait for the ball. Predictable.
3. or, the best case, he can try to dribble through a parked bus or try a 1-2 AGAIN with someone at the edge of a box, which is predictable and easy to intercept

So, basically, when we play against parked buses, the only "unpredictable" and useful thing from him (for now) is if he'll try to dribble through 3-4 defenders in a parked bus.
Our game in general is too predictable, one-dimensional, you need to pass to Messi in every action, we can't cross, we can't play counters with a possession sytle.
Plus Dembele is a counterattacking player for teams like BVB.

For example, yesterday against a parked bus:
Rakitic is not good against parked buses.
Iniesta is past it.
Semedo can't do anything against parked buses.
Dembele can't do too much against parked buses.
Alba is lost without Messi.
Luis can't do anything regardless if they park a bus or not.
So, basically we only had Busquets who can make a good pass here and there and Coutinho, the only guy suitable to play against parked buses and who has weapons for that style of play (OTHER than passing to Messi in each action).

Even if we consider that he isn't great against busses that still doesn't make him a worse alternative than paco.

Hmmmm. He got himself into shooting positions (via dribbling and positioning) last night. Made some clever passes into the box under pressure. Received the ball between the lines on transitions.

He is clearly learning but you will never give him the plaudits he deserves much like you tried to water down his performance vs Villarreal.

It was his ability to fake his man which led to Coutinho's second goal too.

Borussia Dortmund goalkeeper Roman Weidenfeller has hit out at Barcelona winger Ousmane Dembele for his conduct in forcing a move to the Camp Nou last summer.

[...]

"You just don't walk out on a club like that. It caused incredible turmoil that couldn't be calmed by anyone. This is a team sport, football is not tennis. He didn't even collect his boots. That's ridiculous."

After joining Dortmund from Rennes in 2016, Dembele scored 10 goals and created a further 21 in his only season in Germany.

He was suspended indefinitely by Dortmund after staying away from training amid Barcelona's interest.

Weidenfeller said he had not experienced anything similar in 20 years in football.

"Before this, I could not imagine something like this existed. Dembele, at the age of 19, was given the opportunity to make a name for himself at Dortmund. It was here that he turned himself into a player Barcelona wanted to buy, but rather than being thankful he decides to leave the club by staying at home, going on strike, abandoning his teammates. That's just bad style, no manners."

Weidenfeller, 37, set to retire from football following BVB's trip to Los Angeles later this month, added that he could understand a young player being tempted "when being courted by a big club."

"It's OK. But if you make that decision [to leave], there are other options. You try to find a solution which works for all sides."

Robert even talked with him during that summer about Joining but Dembele turned us down because he thought he wouldn't get any game time with us due to MSN.

I really think he never intended to leave Dortmund this early. But With Nerman leaving, He felt like a real opportunity opened up so soon at his dream club that he can play a lot of games likely as a starter with the likes of Suarez and Messi up front etc.

While it's true he could have handled it much better. but at the same time imagine being in his shoes a 20 year old kid, who always dreamed of playing for Barcelona and we give him the chance to do so with guaranteed game time at one of the most prestigious clubs in the world. It would get frustrating from your POV that a small window opened up and the two clubs simply aren't going anywhere in negotiations and you start trying to force the move yourself.

I don't condone his behavior but in some ways I understood what he did and why he did it.

Teams have too much power these days. Players should have their say If they want to leave.
