The problem with him returning back late is that he'll need a couple of weeks at least to get into shape to play significant minutes and by that time he might already be behind in the pecking order.

Sure he can stay and enjoy his vacations and he might play great from the moment he's back in Mid-August, but if he really want to prove to Valverde he deserves to start, is ambitious and want to be in full shape once the season starts it would do him well to join the team in Dallas right now.

He's chilling in Miami so it's not that far away anyway.

Umtiti is a starter, Dembele is not, and if Malcom does well this pre-season he will deservedly be ahead of him in the pecking order being in a better shape once the season starts.

All about priorities. Him staying and relaxing is not wrong or bad, but it would probably benefit him more to be back earlier like ter Stegen and other players before him did, just to prove a point to their manager.

If he is really worried about his position as Sport reported that he is sending his rep to meet with the club, then he should return earlier to show his determination and willingness to fight for a spot. This is the least he can do.

Sometimes I really felt he is not the smartest. Sigh.

Given the tweet he liked where a guy said Sport are trying to ruin his reputation since they want to attack the board as MD are closer to them, I'd say he probably didn't send his rep to meet with the club at all.

Yup. I think Abidal called him and that's about it. As I said before, he likes to compete for his spot. He has done it at Rennes and he has done it at Dortmund. It's also nice to have more than 1 winger.

Ousmane likes all negative tweets recently, mostly those who demand him immediately to return to Barcelona for training.

ter stegen just returned now after having now even played in the wc at all and being eliminated in the group stages, but dembele has to return immediately despite training intensively up until the finals

the scrutiny this guy is getting is hilarious ahaha

People would like him to return early. Ter Stegen is a starter here, experienced player.

Why not look at Mendy? He didn't play much, trained every day, went with Ousmane on holidays. Where is he now?

He could show he cares. Not that he's not entitled to holidays.

1. Mendy played a grand total of 7 games last season, compared to Dembele's 23. And that tally could've been a lot higher had he not have been benched by the manager.

2. Mendy was the only French international on his team, whilst Dembele has Umtiti. He obviously didn't provide the same contribution to France's winning efforts as Umtiti, but I'm sure the club isn't try to aggravate him by saying "Umtiti extend your holiday because you contributed more, Dembele you come back early since you didn't work as hard as Umtiti this season and WC"

1. Injured for half a season, without preseason, on top of that doesn't come as manager's first choice. Clear as day he hasn't adapted yet.

2. You miss the point, again. Club gave them rest they're entitled to. Dembele didn't decide to cut it short and come back early. That's what fans' comments are all about. Mendy, Lemar both did it. Came back trying to win their spots. It's never been about the club, it's his attitude.

Imagine you work in sales or whatever and you had a slower month, sitting on your butt for most of the time. But you also had a 2 or 3 week vacation planned just after. You are of course looking forward to unwind after a long year of work. The boss however, knowing that you slacked off for a month, makes low-key hints that you should come sooner because you had an easy time anyway. Would bet anything with you that the majority on here would think: "fuck this dude, I have my right to go on vacation".

Apparently footballers are not people and should cut their vacation short so we see that they care.
