Compare his ball control and weight of short passes to when he first joined and it is day and night difference. Despite EV's atrocious coaching he is developing nicely as long as he is playing.

I think Barça is just a great environment to improve these kinds of skills.

I didn't see that great match you did. But I agree he looked more mature out there. Started well. 6/10 in numbers.

I agree that this was mature performance for him. Helped both in midfield and defense a lot too. Good work rate. Still has some unforced turnovers, but comparitively less given he was much more involved in the buildup. Some great passes and dribbles too, lighting up the play. Developing in spite of Valverde.

Like his constant substitutions at times when he is most dangerous late in the game with his pace, for instance.

Sir Alex was doing the same to a young CR7 when he came to Man Utd.
I think that Sir Alex even said that he was doing it on purpose.
Integrating him slowly, don't let him to think that he is too good too soon, playing him for only 30-45 minutes etc.

Sir Alex was right with that approach, for example.

He was constantly forcing him to be better and better, no matter how good he already played.

Good performance, not bad, but he should've had 2 assists. He did travel with the ball 40m. in super high speed and passed a perfect ball to Messi didn't he? That's like our best chance in the 2nd half.

In a game where we weren't great, he did show that he is a player who makes things happen, more good than bad things that is.

This has nothing to do with any of that, and everything to do with the fact that we have a 160m man on the bench and he has to play. Its either subbing off Dembele so Cou can get the minutes or playing Cou in midfield. So the great Dembele weapon is gone in the dying minutes and the opposition can push forward knowing we have turtles up front.

EV subs off Dembele every game because he isn't a reactive coach who adapts to the situation, he has his subs set before the game even starts and that was a huge part of our downfall in Rome

If he would play for a team with fast and quick players, he would be one of the best players in the world. Imagine his speed with someone else with speed and quickness. Yikes.

No wonder Liverpool wants to sign him. He would do great with them.

I think he got dispossessed a bit too easily and too often . Can cost us against tough opposition in UCL as fast vounter attacking transitions are what we struggle to defend against.
