Wasn't one of the main complaints a year ago that he's slow? He looks rapid now.
He isn't 'slow', he is just not good at dribbling in 1v1 situations, which people always confuse with each other.

Dribbling is more agility than it is speed.

In a straight line Raphinha is statistically very fast, not only that, he has maybe the best gas tank in world football. Which makes him extremely difficult to deal with when he is tasked with running the channels.

He's not a great dribbler for a stand still position.

On the run, he's cooking 2 to 3 defenders easily, with dribbles not just speed.

He just isn't a yamal/Messi/dembele type who can slow all the way down to zero and still beat his man.

Mbappe is kind like raphinha too, but not to the same extent, once he stops, it's coms exponentially more difficult for him to beat his man.

Raphinha has offered Joan Laporta the possibility of paying the €21K fine from his own pocket so that the Animation Stand fans could return to the stadium for the home matches.

That's even more embarrassing than the atmosphere in the stadium.

Really poor from Laporta. Essentially jeopardising the season by taking a stand over 21k measly Euros.

The players deserve better.

Yeah, he can't control the ball well enough while standing still and accelerating at the same time. It's a difficult skill to master, because the first bit has to be done using really smooth technique.

Dembele is not a good example though. He can cook slow defenders in 1 vs 1, but mostly due to his pace. I have never seen him own top tier defenders from static positions because his technique is not good enough.

Yea fair point about dembele, he mainly beats his man from a stand still due to his instant burst.

Yeah, and the quality of the players he can do that against is usually restricted to not very good fullbacks. The better ones can't be simply beaten by pace because there's not enough space to do that in. Most you can do is escape them a bit and gain enough clearance to place a cross.

The worry when facing Dembele is that Balde is a mediocre defender.

Of course, playing a very high line vs fast wingers is gonna make their pace harder to cope with, because they will have a lot of space to accelerate into.
