Mascherano: "My mistake at the end? Playing at Barça forces you to take risks, you always have to pass or they think you're stupid."
can someone bring up the stats of the amount of games he played as DM for Barcelona?
i actually think that it would be a really great solution.
its quite simple actually, when he plays, we might lose a lot of Busquets attacking vision/ long passes/ overall magic that he has.
but Mascherano could maybe finally be a "DEFENSIVE" midfielder, and god he has those amazing interceptions, way way before the opponent even gets close.
also he's pretty calm when needed. and also can get aggressive when needed, which is also good.
it wont be that bad, for some games, to have someone who thinks first about blocking and stopping, and after that about giving a simple pass.
@FCBarca
I have to disagree with you there. Mascherano is an absolutely brilliant DM, when he was in the EPL (where I was lucky enough to see him play on several occasions) he was immense. Easily the best player in the division for me. I know it isn't popular to name a DM as a league's best player, but he really was. I truely believe that he could do a great job for us in that position, again.
The fact that he has been a CB for this long just puts into perspective how idiotic our management is
Mascherano: "My mistake at the end? Playing at Barça forces you to take risks, you always have to pass or they think you're stupid."
Funny and sad at the same time. I feel this kind of attitude is perpetuated by Xavi and the likes. We should get off our high horse and be practical sometimes. Evolve with time. One clearance instead of a pass wouldnt destroy our "identity"
You know, Puyol of all people, played it safe when he had to and kicked the ball into the stands if the situation called for it, and no one ever complained about it... But for players who come from abroad there is this immense pressure to play "Barca-style" that screws with their mind...
Not saying his mistake is justified, but sometimes we have to be a little more loose when it comes to applying our system...
It's a good thing we require our players not to hoof the ball everytime they get it because doing that would be extremely disruptive to our style of play. I don't know why there's still a debate over this, it's like those people wanting to go back in time because they can't adapt to change. It is clearly better this way and if someone can't play that way then he shouldn't be in this team and we should only get players who can deal with these sorts of situations.
Regarding Mascherano, he made that error 30 seconds before the game ended under extreme pressure from Espanyol and being basically the last man (he was lucky Piqué was nearby). That has nothing to do with maintaining our style of play, it was just stupidity and he should have known better, and frankly to me what he said just sounds like an excuse and a way to shift blame off himself.
