Busquets played too much this season, he was absolutely exhausted at the end of it. Of course Masch and Busquets can rotate, even though Busquets will play most games. Having Busquets fresh at the end of the season is better than having him exhausted.

But yeah, Mascherano is going to see less gametime now that he is moved to the DM position than what he did at CB. He's 30 years old, and probably has no issue with this what so ever.

Plus we never truly tried a hybrid double pivot with Busi taking up a little more attacking responsibilities that Xavi currently has while sharing the defensive responsibilities with another WC DM like Masch. It could be our go to plan for tough away games or against teams with intense pressing mentality (Athletic).
P.S, Happy Birthday to the man with a heart as big as the Nou Camp.

I'd much prefer to see Samper or some other B team kid play in games we deem easy enough to cripple our midfield by not using Busquets.

Samper isn't ready yet. He needs to get a constant spot in the B-team to develop before he can come into games like that. Or did you mean easy enough not to cripple our midfield?

I mean in games we feel we can win one way or another, we might as well let Samper play. It's honestly hard for me to see Masche being a key player for us in any sense of the word when he has to play backup to Busi. Toure was/is a better pivot than Mascherano and look at where he is now.

Toure was/is not a natural DM he is more of a box to box DM with a taste for attacking while at Barca we need defensive minded player or at least players that can switch between both mentalities like Busi and Masch. Toure's talents would have been wasted here playing the role Busi currently plays

Masch should become our new captain (our vice) indeed. If I remember correctly, Lucho said that he looks at the character of a player, and not the amount of years that he's been playing for Barca already.

Would be great news, because I'd much rather see Mascherano as our captain than the likes of Iniesta and such.

I don't get a voting thing. It'll always turn in some kind of popularity contest and about not stepping on anyone's toes.
Captain should be a spirited and commanding figure. That's all.

He makes too many mistakes as a player (and CB) to be the captain imo.
He's definitely a leader, but in a big team, your captain need to be one of the best in his position. We should give the armband to Leo so he can develop his leadership.

If there will be a voting, somehow I doubt the players' vote will result in a situation much, if any different than the current one. At least I hope so. If their votes turned things around in that regard, it would quite possibly mess up the atmosphere in the dressing room. It would suggest that the other players don't respect the guys who were captains until now.

Why is it ridiculous that La Masia players are favored over the rest when it comes to things such as captaincy? Is there really literally no respect for the fact that someone spent their entire life at the club and lived for the club, and came through the ranks all the way to the first team?

I don't know if Masch is the right choice.
He has all the abilities to lead the team but he is not a sure starter. That would be a problem.

This has been touched on already, but why is it "Ridiculous" that a player who graduated La Masia be favored? In my opinion being captain should require you to have come up through La Masia. I doubt Mascherano would throw all his red-card hissy fits if he had developed in Barcelona's academy.

Besides, if Xavi isn't captain, and Iniesta after, that's seriously spitting in their faces. Especially considering Mascherano won't be starting most games next season anyways.

Iniesta will probably be captain or second captain who wears the band most of the time since it looks like Xavi will be taking a step back this season
