We praise flick for his development in the first XI and rightfully so, but one wonders what would happen if Bernal didn't get injured.

Because Flick didn't even look at him after the Valencia game, he could have easily subbed him in for bernal the game bernal got injured and history could be so different, he would probably still be a bit part sqaud player.

But I love the next player up mentality that he's shown, he got an opportunity and grabbed it with both hands.

The next man up mentality is what we have to instill in all our masia and sqaud players, when you get your chance, freaking take it.
One door closes, another door opens.

Hindsight and all but it's probably a Good thing we waited until we got a new coach to give him a real shot.

Xavi apparently rated him and liked his profile but I don't think he was rated high enough that he was going to get a real chance to convince that he had any real chance at getting a significant role in the team.

We got Gavi under koeman and Yamal and Cubarsi under Xavi and he gave Fermin a chance. Now Flick got us Casado and hopefully Bernal.

Bernal will have it tough next season. Casado will be 22 by then with a full season as a starter. Tough to displace a player like that as an 18 year old.

First 20 minutes made me think the game was too big for him. Final 70 minutes told me he was too big for the game.

Sarcasm aside, this is very true.

On defense he is immense, like a Catalan Kante, he runs after the ball like he is running after the man who killed his wife.

On the ball, when Bayern pressed us after our first goal, he was our weakest point, he barely contributed to our build up and was happy to get rid of the ball, both Pedri and Fermin did bigger job their.

After that he was more comfortable a bit, either because we did better or Bayern was too exhausted to press the same way.

This is an area I expect him to work on, as he raises his game and expectations as time goes.

Brilliant game, and hopefully more to come.

So CL stats coming out today show Marc Casado top speed is a blistering 35,6kmh.

6th fastest player in the tournament.

His acceleration is great so he is getting to this speed quickly, proving how much of an asset he is in covering short spaces, closing down opposition (with those trademark slides) and hustling pressure and turnovers.
Where did you see that? Not on uefa.com (yet?)

Previously our two top speedsters were Gerard Martin and Cuenca with 33.6 km/h lol

Isn't that ideal for Bernal's situation? He can return slowly, getting minutes when Casado rests and in easier games. If both fullfill their potential we'll have a problem who'll be a starter in a few years but that's a nice problem to have and it also depends on future coaches and the formation. I'm sure we'll return to possesion based 4-3-3 one day and Bernal's profile is probably more suited for a lone pivot but that's far in the future.

I just watched the highlights of spurs in the EL and saw bergvall, completely forgot about him and I remembered the uproar some here had about us missing out on him.

He's very good no doubt, but casado's immerging, just goes to show what I was saying back then.

The people at the club, knows their are many just as talented or more talented young midfielders in la masia, didn't make sense to go crazy for him.

Marc Casadó: “If I am where I am today, it is largely thanks to Rafa Márquez. He gave me confidence at all times and made me a better person and a better player, especially by making me see the importance of working off the field. I will be eternally grateful to him.”

Marquez also replied

Now as a coach, one of the things you value the most is gratitude and helping the player develop. Casado is a clear example of a professional player from head to toe! Bravo! Happy with his performance

He’s doing well and the Swede is every bit the talent many of us believed he could be in a senior team. Casadó flourishing has little to do with the club/Deco being left with egg on their face considering their very visible pursuit. A Barca transfer pursuit of that sort 9/10 ends with player signing, and it has not been the only example under Deco

Not to mention we really need 2 for every single position.

Bernal/Casado fulfill that for the 6
Gavi/Pedri/FDJ for the 8
Olmo/Fermin/Torre/Pedri/Rahinha for the 10

I believe Gavi is more of a hybrid 6 & 8. He will pair well with Pedri in the double pivot.
