It's good he missed in this meaningless competition and eventually didn't cost his nation than he did it in important games

Hopefully they don't give him pks in shootouts if we get any in CL now

Even if he was a great taker mentally you should not rely on a 17 year old, it's nonsense

He has never shoot a penalty before in his career, don't know why anybody is surprised

Think they shouldn't have given it to him at all

Great goal though and a solid performance overall, move on to actual football now
You can't say if he has never been in a penalty shoot-out in his career, including the youth football competitions.

They dont just give you penalty in a shoot out. Most times, the teams have their top 5/6 penalty takers already in case of a shout out. That would have been an outcome of shootout tests/practices at trainings. What happens before a penalty shoot out will be the coach contacting the listed penalty takers to revalidate their level of confidence or elect replacement takers if any of the " top 5/6 selected" ones have been substituted. Order of playing is also agreed by the team. If you dont feel confident enough or appear as such to the team handlers, they dont put you in the first 5/6. It may get to your turn if the the shoot out is prolonged enough though. He must have told them he was confident of taking one before they put his name there. Nobody forces anyone to play penalty kicks unless you have no choice.

Good goal and a good game overall but you cant but notice increasing complacency and arrogance creeping in gradually

Penalty taking is a skill you need to master and he does not have it yet. Simple!! No other excuses. It is not about the age. Mcheal Owen was 17years and 185 days when he assumed the role of Liverpools main penalty taker in 1997.

World starting to notice Gangsta

Van der Vaart before the match: "I noticed some things about Lamine Yamal that started to annoy me. His shorts were too low, he didn't try too hard, he had some superficial gestures..."

There is no complacency and no arrogance. There is, however, a demand of perfection for a 17 year old.

His brilliance this early on in his career has made people treat him the very same way they do fully grown and experienced professionals. Because of this, whenever he makes a mistake they are quick to attribut it to lack of effort like they do for the best players out there- rather than lack of experience, maybe even lack of skill or mental problems commonly associated with his age.

I know for a fact he didn't take any penalties in his professional career, if he did in his youth days it's irrelevant because it can never be compared to the big stage of football.

If he felt confident he'll score the penalty, that's even better. He obviously had the technique and wanted to implement it in a real football game. He had the courage, it's a positive sign rather than something to complain about. If he failed, he'll learn. All part of the game.

No need to develop when you are already the best.

I typically like VDV, but he was talking literally shit, his breath probably stinks right now.

As long as we have a good board, a manager like Flick, and leaders like Raphinha in the team, I'm not worried about Lamine. With donkeys in charge as Presidents, soft managers that don't correct things when attitude goes off, and weaklings in the team... things can go bad quickly though.

A lot will depend on Yamal also. Nothing wrong with having fun out there though. Just as long as he knows when it's time for bussiness, it's time for bussiness, not fooling around. So far, he seems to understand pretty well when he can showboat a bit, and when it's time for serious stuff.
