19 - Lamine Yamal

Almost played as much as whole last season (would probably be on around 3.200 - similar to Raphinha - if he wouldn't miss a few games with injury though) and we still have three months left this season.

Minutes played (all comps)

23/24: 2.957

24/25: 2.920

And then we have people complaining he doesn't press every game like a mad man Raphinha who is in his prime years and has a fully developed body.

I've been saying for months Flick should manage his minutes better. Absolutely no excuse to let him in games when we're up by 3-4 goals with 20 minutes left.

1. you risk a frustrated opponent losing his head and seriuosly injure him and
2. minutes accumulate during the season and eventually players start to feel that. He was probably not tired in October or December but will be in April or May when we'll need him to be in top form.

Several games where he should be subbed.

Valladolid 7-0 - full 90 minutes
Girona 4-1 - subbed out in 90th minute but we were leading 4-0 in 64th
Villarreal 5-1 - 90 min (we scored 4th goal in 75th minute)
Mallorca 5-1 - 90 min (tbf we only scored 3rd goal in 75th so cant't complain much)
Red Star 5-1 - 90 min (we were leading 4-1 in 55th minute)
Sociedad 4-0 - 90 min - 3-0 HT and were playing against 10 men most of the game so no excuse really to let him on full game
Valencia 5-0 (Copa) - 90 min - 5-0 after 60 minutes

And then more games when he was subbed but thought he could be easily pulled 10-15 minutes earlier as well.

Sevilla 5-1 - 76 minutes (we were 3-0 up at HT)
Valencia 7-1 - 71 minutes (5-0 HT)
Young Boys - 5-0 - 75 minutes (4-0 at start of 2nd half - but tbf he was "rested" a few days before in a tough away game in Pamplona - still can't understand that Bumsi decision, lol)

I know players don't want to be subbed every (other) game but we could have easily spared him another 100-150 minutes accumulated in his legs. Doesn't look much but it would keep him fresher for most crucial part of the season.

Yea he should have been subbed off more.

I wonder if those few weeks he was injured, flick thought it was enough rest for him.

But zero issues with his off the ball work, anyone who talks shit about his work defensively is just looking for an excuse not to like the kid.

He's not running out of steam, he is consistently performing at a top level in almost every game but I see the disease of G/A obsession has caught up on just about everybody. Yasterday 1st half he was our best player especially after the red.

He should be subbed out more I definitely agree. Not because he performs bad or whatever but simply because needs rest ahead of crucial part of the season.

The G/A obsession is caught up to him as well, he's really pushing to up his goal numbers.

Think he needs to relax and they will come.

You're welcome
I thought he was pretty solid as well. Enough threat coming from him.

He was trying to be more direct instead of pulling off flourishes on the ball.

Shouldn't be fasting on Game days. On top he's 17 years old.

If he does, its pure stupidity.

"Lamine Yamal, who is actively participating in the month of Ramadan this year (from March 1 to 30), has permission from the relevant religious authorities to make exceptions on match days. A detail that helps make the '19's' fasting more bearable for the club, which, however, considers that the player is already in good hands through the head of nutrition for the first team, Silvia Tremoleda"

Thats the least he should do. I would only want him fasting 1-day between matchdays.

He does training the other days. A proffesional shouldnt be fasting, let alone a 17 year old athlete when his body is developing.

Trainings should be fine as they train early during the days. He can eat a big meal at around 5 in the morning and have plenty of energy to train at 11.

I'm glad he seeks permission from some random religious people and not from his actualy employer on how he should behave at work. That's how it should be.

GL with benching him. Flick has to justify himself to a 17 yo

After Lamine was subbed off yesterday, Flick explained the substitution to him, avoiding tensions.

It is his personal matter, but Lamin Yamal has no right not to fast in the month of Ramadan from a religious point of view.
