2 - Pau Cubarsí

He got so much criticism here the 2nd half of the season when I would say he is absolutely as unprecedented at his position as Lamine is as RW. Pau, is an outrageous talent with an incredible mentality

The only question is whom to pair him with, will it be again Araujo (ideal, IMHO) or Dominguez, or another?

Reminder why it was smart to sub Pau after an hour vs Girona, do not overload the kids..yet Lamine?

he was good today.
This is coming from someone who is not his fan. He is gradually winning me over with the improvements i have seen...especially on the physical battle with older and bigger and more gritty opponents. Once he was subbed, Monaco attackers were bullying Barca CDs per second.

2nd goal was not his fault.....never.....nobody would have expected Raphinha to lose the ball at that moment, when Barca were up tempo in transition.....every single player was displaced

Thought he was excellent on the whole. Fantastic last ditch challenges and clearances.

Him and Lamine stood out. Both generational, but Pau goes under the radar because he is a defender.

Think it's obvious he will be one of the best centre backs in the world fairly soon.

at fault for that missed header giving Monaco 2:1.

Should have realized the ball was too high.

Yes. You don't take yourself out like that unless you are sure you get the ball. Goal is on him, but it happens, he played a solid match other than that error I think.

Was his mistake but I blame Flick for playing a stupidly high back line while having a result (I'll always take a draw in a tough away match being a man down for 80 minutes) entering late stage of the game. Set them 5-10m lower and that goal wouldn't have happened.

True. That's my only complaint on Flick. Not the subs, not keeping Lewa on, not anything else, but not being more compact in defense and playing such a risky high line in 10 men.

Prepare to blame him more often then, because he won't move away from it. He was known for it in Bayern and that was also the reason, they conceded many goals in his second season.
Also a deep defensive line isn't a fool proof solution either, as Xavi showed again and again last season. PSG 2nd leg was a good example how you still can concede goals while sitting deep.

Of course, you can still concede goals while sitting deeper if you have poor defenders. Take Cancelo vs PSG. Sleeping at the first goal, gifting a pen in the 3rd. There are also other examples though, where sitting deep had benefits. The 1-0 win at Porto. The 2-1 in 10 men at Osasuna. The 1-0 on Bernabeu in the Cup.

I understand it's much nicer if you don't sit back and play on the front foot even under bad conditions. With only one exception. If you do that and lose often.

If Flick can manage to keep his own style intact and is successful even with player-quality issues, that's quite impressive.

Random, but am I the only one who thinks he looks huge right now?.

Relatively speaking.

Whatever he and yamal is on, we need to get our other players on, their physical development has been impressive.
