In Lucho we trust!
One heck of a World Cup it seems. Thx for the big welcome Brazil!

As I said, I think as long as Brazil do well in the tournament then there will be no trouble. However, imagine they got knocked out in the second round, or even the quarters and Argentina are still in it!

That news is quite exaggerated, on par with the snakes and other stuff I've seen around. That problem has nothing with the wc, it's a strike from the subway workers in sp. If anything, they're using the wc to get their raise, as são Paulo cannon be without the subway.

There also would be no protests if brazil gets out, even in the group stages. Most of the people involved in protests last year, and this year, didn't want the wc in the 1st place.

Thought I'd be more excited about the wc but not yet. Still stuck in Barca mode hoping we make good moves for next season. Must admit the injuries and omissions aren't helping my excitement with players like Falcao, Reus, Ribery missing out. Another big reason I'm yet to get excited is the local USA media making embarrassing commercials and forcing discussion on the topic at gun point (710AM ESPNLA looking at you). It's like, you don't discuss world football AT ALL (which says that its not lucrative to talk about soccer because no one wants to hear it) let alone MLS gets 10 seconds and only for things like Donovan breaking record, then you all of a sudden start talking about international football teams with listeners having little to no knowledge of who players/coaches/systems even are! I've tweeted my favorite announcers months in advance pleading with them to start discussing European/SA football in little increments so they don't come off pretentious during WC. Didn't happen and now it just upsets me to hear the marketing machine at work instead of focusing on the game itself.

Does anybody else find it strange that the starting keepers for 3 contenders are bench players in their respective clubs i.e, Romero (Argentina), Cesar (Brazil) and Iker (Spain) :troll:

The great thing about THIS world cup in particular is that both Brazil and Argentina can't succeed - one WILL fail - and that will be hilarious to watch no matter what :D Either the Argies fail yet again which will be hilarious or Brazil don't win it on their own turf which would be massively hilarious - even more hilarious if Argentina win it on their own turf.

I don't think people realise the effect it will have for years and decades if Brazil fail AND Argentina win the World Cup. Also if that was the final and Argentina win then it's immortality for all of Argentina over Brazil forever more.

The most epic situation will be Brazil vs Argentina in the Final. Imagine this situation:
Brazil score in the first 20 mins.
At half time the score is 1-0.
15 of so mins after the restart Argentina equalize.
The game seems to be going into ET when all of a sudden Messi dribbles through 5 players including TS and scores (this after the 80 min mark) and wins it for Argentina. Messi officially becomes the GOAT ever

It's a pity the opening stadium isn't going to be 100% ready but it's still functional and for me one of the most beautiful in the world. In fact all 12 stadiums are great and finally we have a World Cup with no running tracks!

A final between Brazil and Argentina is like the mother of all classicos. Hell if Messi throws up from anxiety on friendlies he might get a heart attack before that encounter.

To play a final between those two in the Maracana is a dream scenario. I can't even imagine the media hype. Pele/Maradona rivalry comments.

The world would stand still until the final whistle and I bet many teams like Germany, Spain and others wont feel bad having dropped out for those two to play the final.

Am I the only one who feels that besides the initial spectacle of the rivals clashing, that a potential Bra vs Arg final would be shit? I mean, Brazil are not that good and neither are Argentina. Truthfully, I'd rather see teams like Chile or Spain in the final for the complete football they put forth.

Curious what your take on the World Cup means from the perspective of a Brasilian

Loved the John Oliver take on FIFA, corrupt to the core...Lot of Suisse are not that excited about the tournament as a result of that, many talking of a boycott from watching
