Germans have lost 4 finals and the dutch 3 if I'm not mistaken... But at the same time, Germany has won 3 WC and Netherlands 0, sooooo...

And while that pic is obviously exaggeration, Germany are certainly winners when it comes to football...

On Twitter, I follow a Brazilian MMA fighter (Vitor Belfort) and he's talking about FIFA not paying taxes in Brazil. Not sure what he's talking because I'm just using google translate. Any Brazilian members/ Portuguese members care to translate this?

I don't know jackshit about portuguese but I'll give it a try:

I can't deal with so much corruption in our country. Don't be blind to what our leaders have done to our country: FIFA COMES AND DOESN'T WANT TO PAY TAXES? That's a hit to the face to each of the brazillians who pay taxes and work hard. It's time for every brazillian to think and decide what government will be deciding our future. Don't be selfish and think what's best for our country. OUT OUT OUT CORRUPT POLITICIANS I CAN'T DEAL WITH IT ANYMORE.

There are some parts that I definitely did not understand, but that's the gist of it...

EDIT:

His other status says he's proud to be brazillian and that during his career he waved the brazillian flag, and that he has many businesses in Brazil that make him pay a lot in taxes unlike FIFA...

Fifa did how they pleased here, that much is true. There are articles about it in english, if you search you'll find out.

Yup, he didn't give any insight on the problem... Basically he just says he's pissed off, hahaha...

EDIT:

Richard, there's plenty of videos that talk about it... I'm going to eat, I'll see if I post one after I'm done...

Yeah that's what I really meant with my reply lol.

Flavia, is this a big issue that Brazilian media is covering? None of the US soccer coverage has ever talked about this, so I'm curious.

FIFA pretty much set their own rules, regardless of the country they are invading; you either agree, or forget about hosting.

John Oliver did a great run-down on FIFA's bullying on the HBO satirical news show "Last Week Tonight." (tax commentary starts at 3:55)

No, not really. The dominant media are silent about it. But this was one of the reasons for the protests last year.

I found some articles:

Thank you Bernie and Flavia.

It seems like the WC sponsors are really taking in huge profits. Crazy how these big companies always find illegal ways to make a profit

Brazil will get third. They want to get some pride back to the fans, Holland played a day later and wont really care about 3rd.
