I think this Argentina looks better than Sabellas that was far too defensive.

In the WC the Nigeria game was about the only game Argentina played all that well other than defending and bursts from Messi.

People are over reacting after the Paraguay game. Argentina could easily have won that game by three or four had they taken their chances.

Hardly defensive. 8-2 on aggregate against Paraguay in the qualifiers. Sabella built a solid defensive unit. And that is what wins tournaments. Unfortunately Messi was not fully fit and neither were Aguero or Higuain. And then di Maria was ruled out of the semi-final and final.

I think di Maria needs to be given his free role. Perhaps revert to a traditional 4-2-2-2

They played defensively at the World Cup. Their defence was poor that the full backs were not given a lot of freedom to go forward and Masch virtually played as a third CB at times.

They didnt get the numbers around Messi that they did in qualifying where the four forwards were almost given total freedom to hit teams on break.

To be fair Di Maria and Aguero were barely fit so maybe had to switch but they scored one goal from QF's they went over 300 mins without scoring a goal.

Messi looked isolated as they kept so many players back.
