Van der Vaart: "Frenkie de Jong is playing football like a mailman. He takes way too long with passing the ball forward, instead he keeps running and carrying the ball to his teammate. Once you turn away from your opponent you have to keep the ball moving, pass the ball!"

Ahah, true, true, true!

As I have said many times - Frenkie De Jong is very overrated.

Damn, he's been at this club for so many years, but he still hasn't mastered the basic principles of positional football.

And he will never master it.
And he won't leave either, no matter how many times the club disrespects him.

No self respect. No backbone.

Garbageman.

Frenkie lacks the presence to be world class.

He has zero presence. Busquets for instance had so much presence in the middle of the park.

Sometimes he plays like he's in love with himself and hogs the ball way too much instead of moving it quicker. Doesn't show up in the big European ties. No wonder certain posters here twerk for him.

He could impose himself more for sure. But it's not like there's some fluid system in place where he can pop up, make a third man run, receive it 5 passes later. In Xavi's barca you have to be stuck in your position and somehow find through balls despite fixed positions, or take on 2/3 players to create a chance. Failing that it's out to a winger/fullback and cross (mostly this)

So many trash players in this squad and players who Xavi brought in to not even play them to their strengths or in their best positions.

And a few yall still whining about De Jong, one of our best players over the past 12 months.

Classic.

Ironically a lot of the same people who were defending Xavi and his "impactful" signings who apparently carried us to the league last season!

Man, things aren't looking good for yall at the moment.

That would be true, if he hasn't been doing the same thing for 5 seasons now.

So this one isn't on Xavi, that's just how he plays.

Mind you the best he's looked in his entire Barca career was under Xavi

Can't think of a single player who's been consistently great for us over the last few years.

Frenkie probably only one who's been consistently above average for extended periods. He's had ups and downs too of course.

I can't believe how this guy gets over praised for doing the simplest of things on a football pitch. I swear he could rip a fart and folk would be praising how he made the fart float rhythmically across the pitch, whilst gliding effortlessly between the opposing defenders.

Napoli was one Frenkie's best defensive efforts this season. But overall he's shying away from risky passes, seems afraid of mistakes and this makes Barca predictable in the build-up.

You're welcome
Find it weird that no one proposes this could be due to instructions. Frenkie likely knows he’s one of(if not best) passers on the team.

I'm back to thinking he dwells too much on the ball. I won't miss his 5+ seconds ball fiddling and 10x turns just to pass it to the nearest teammate

If players move to open spaces he'd deliver it, but the thing is our mf is so static that only time he releases pass quick is when opponent presses heavily and they are leaving cracks. No wonder the most passes he deployed were to cancelo and gundogan, who still are brainwashed by pep philosophy to attack open spaces. You folks are haters by design

Yes, there was lots of time frenkie was stuck with the ball in the middle of the field, but its not like he had a plethora of options to pass to. Pedri is not a left winger and was in no mans land for most of the game. And then he had Christensen who obviously is not a midfielder and so is not going to be the best outlet or muse on the pitch offensively.

If only they signed a proper midfielder in the summer instead of a guy who cant run, then this season could've turned out much differently. Barca lack a physical, mobile mid to bring another dimension to the midfield. Frankie is basically tasked with doing it all, being the only mid they have that has any defensive qualities and at the same time needed to be the playmaking spark. Thats a lot to ask of any player.

If some people get there way and frenkie is sold, then barca need to get 2 mids. And what is the likelihood that laporta will nail both signings considering recent history?
