He played a good game , but how many times you see there is a clear open passing lane for a dangerous pass but he simply refuses to attempt the through ball? Whats up with that?

The alternative is all the others who kept trying it and giving ball away.

There was one in 2nd half that Lewa was wide open.. but maybe he saw it was Lewa.

Defensively he was good and kept it ticking well particualrly near end could see him and Pedri trying to take tempo out of it then front three and full backs would hare off taking risks often not needed.

Looked leggy a few time when tried to get running.

He was slow to close down couple of times and his passing wasnt on his usual level.

They all looked slow at times that second half to close down.. but yeah he did look a bit leggy but like all of them pushed on through it.

A few times he looked sluggish on final pass.

He actually got better and more important in last 10 minutes bizarrely. Him and Pedri looked like they got a bit of a second wind and took back control a bit.

7 balls recovered each for the Pedri - de Jong duo against Atlético. 6 successful through passes for Pedri, 7 for Frenkie. 80% of duels won between them.

The effort from both vs a team like Atletico was top notch.

He is still a Pecho frio, Pedri is like 100times better than him, he did improve a bit in the last 2 months or so but we need to recruit someone better than him asap.

The way Flick allows him freedom to move and not stick to DM is impressive.

Carrying the ball like that is going to collapse midfield and give more space to those around him.

Barca are having so many players performing they are dominating when 2 or 3 of them play well and others dont. In games when all fresh and click they demolish teams.

Think it depends which players are available. Frankie, while, playing nominally a DM relishes in a more free role and doesnt excell playing a regular positional pivot we were used with Busquets. Pedri is a pressing beast so obviously that helps tremendously.

As usual - often over-holds the ball when he needs to move the ball faster in one or two touches.

In addition, he scans the space around him quite poorly on defense.

His main and key skill since Ajax - progressive runs with the ball that help to break the first line of the opponent. That alone is risky when you play in position 6 in a 4-3-3 system. These runs are more justified when he has, for example, Erik Garcia around him who can back him up from behind.

In any case, anyone who claims we should extend him on the current terms - €14m salary + €5m bonuses - is a complete idiot.

Pedri gets 12.5 - 13.5m euros, which means De Jong should get no more than 10. If he disagrees, point him at the door.

Same goes for Yamal - I see his father is a 35 year old clown who can request a lot of cachet. Lamine shouldn't get a contract bigger than Pedri's - €10-11m max. Don't agree - also point him at the door.

There are also additional risks with Yamal - his height is currently 180cm. He is 17 years old. If he grows another 5-10 cm it will be a disaster considering his style of play.

Don't be in a hurry.
