21 - Frenkie de Jong

He does lack a lot of aspects that are required from CM but also brings a lot of other skills that Casado lacks.

I would still start Casado ahead of him, but it also will depend on the matchups aswell. Teams that play a low block or sit back, FDJ will be a much bigger asset and no brainer to start.

Look at Raphinha's goal, FDJ had the opportunity to make a quick pass to him. Instead he delayed and a Sevilla player covered the angle, meaning opportunity was lost. Cubarsi saw the pass and played it. That's the problem with him, he wastes a lot of time to make decisions.

He was ok.. not great not bad. Did what had to do and kept ball moving.

Looked like Sevilla were trying to pick him up early and borderline man mark so he kept pulling the man out of line and playing it simple to others who then found Pedri drifting into the space left to then break lines.

Looked tired in 2nd half.

This idea he doesnt play ball forward is miles off. He is in different league to likes of Casado and Gavi for progressing the ball. He just pick and chooses when to do it.

Up until this season he was the leader of players in La Liga for line breaking through balls of current players. He regularly has amongst the best progressive passing yds and passes etc and amongst the players most involved in moves resulting in goals and chances.

Last night no so much but he did what was needed and the fact likes of Sevilla know they have to keep close to him helps likes of Pedri find space compared to others they want left on ball.

Want to look at a player that struggles to find players ahead of him.. look at Gavi last night. Utterly awful.

To an extent but also the pass from FDJ to Raphinha was half expected and straight pass like that he would barely get chance to take on half turn and defenders been up his arse.

Raph had back to defence and defenders closer albeit not tight.

By time ball went out to Cubarsi Raphinha was in more space and got on half turn to receive it realising what was on.

I would bet my bottom dollar if FDJ played that into Raph feet there he doesnt turn on it way did with Cubarsi pass.

The Cubarsi pass was the better one to take on. More space and Raphinha on half turn to receive it.

Having likes of Cubarsi to recognise it and make the pass is a luxury and why patience pays off there.
