Yeah it was never gonna happen like Birdy said and it shouldn't anyway, FDJ did nothing wrong (he did us no favors either). They tried that with Dembele but he was too important and it didn't work.
Now that FDJ really doesn't have a place in the starting 11 it could happen naturally. He's gonna be on the bench a lot, maybe he accepts to leave in the summer because of that but I think he'll leave for free in 2026. Nobody will offer him anything close to the wage he gets here, he can be a rotational player until then if that means long term wealth for him and his family. His ankle doesn't look good, it could be his last chance to get that kind of money.
Could have happened with Dembele if Laporta was not such a beta to listen to an idiot like Xavi, and had listened to Allemany instead.
Allemany wanted to go all the way with the right strategy, Allemany had seen it all and knew where Moussa Sissoko would divert the negotiations.
and what happened in the end?
Dembele gave us very good games on the pitch for 1.5 more years, and then left without the club getting even a fraction of his real value in return
In the counterfactual scenario where Dembele sits in the stands for 6 months he either signs Barca extension in 2022 ON OUR TERMS (without a release clause) and not on his terms (that he actually signed in 2022) or he leaves for NO big club. As no big club wanted him in the summer of 2022 including PSG. PSG was alerted to his case 1 year later due to this low release clause and Messi/Neymar leaving.
So, who won in the end? The club or Moussa?
Think for yourself
PS: If Laporta/Deco opt again for a soft stance on De Fraud come summer, they will be making the SAME mistake AGAIN.
And no wise man makes the same mistake twice...
