Does anyone else just find this to be one of the most baffling transfer sagas of all time? I know good defenders are hard to come by these days, but we're so in on this random fifth choice CB for City. He's played 16 games for them in total, and in none of those games has he ever looked like the Messiah - he's just an average to decent CB, with the potential to be quite good. He's not bad by any means, but he's hardly even outstanding for his age. I don't get it at all to be honest. Why do we want him so badly?

because he is barca-boy, talented to some extend, cheap/free.

We are going to sign him because we are currently 1 billion dollars in debt and cannot purchase an expensive defender.

If he sucks he can be sold for a profit (even if it is ~10 million euros)

I have no problem with this transfer as we are in a transition period and he may turn out to be a decent player for us.

Wijnaldum, garcia and depay are great for cost.

They will improve team for 0.

Next year bring superstar like Haaland or great CB like Kounde,Upamecano etc.

A document was leaked about why we wanted Eric quickly.

Here are the translated parts.

Thread: An internal report with which the sporting area want to show the need to sign Garc?a this month describes that Koeman only has three available centre-backs in the team: Lenglet, Umtiti and Ara?jo. [tv3]

Three centre-backs, from which the latter doesn't have a lot of experience, and Umtiti is described as an "unreliable player in terms of injuries". The report also stresses that Piqu? will not return for another two months. [tv3]

Furthermore, the coaching staff believes that Mingueza "can help in medium-demand games, but for the most important games he's not ready yet", and Mingo and Igor from Bar?a B are both out with an injury. [tv3]

The report also illustrates that the signing of Garc?a is a "market opportunity that must be taken advantage of". According to the coaching staff, Garc?a has accepted Bar?a's proposal by rejecting much higher ones economically speaking. [tv3]

It goes on to say "the intention for next season is to find a way out for players like Junior, Umtiti and Neto. This, plus the promotion of young talents, as may be the case for Bald?, would mean a future saving in salary". [tv3]

It really is a cost benefit analysis. Is paying 3m worthy doing considering the current CB options we have and the objectives of the season (realistically speaking) and possibilities that even with Garcia's addition it might not significant impact the outcome of the current season? The biggest risk would be of course if we really rate him and he chooses to renew or joins another team.
