Can someone clarify if the rumor that we can purchase a player due to Vermaelen's absence is true? I haven't been too up to date in the past week but I keep seeing that yet I don't recall any confirmation.

Normally in Liga without a ban when a player is injured 3 or more months the team is handed a transfer exception as they can sign a player in the middle of the season without having to wait until the transfer market.the player is either FA or played less than 5 games if I remember correctly
The club believes they have the right to make such a transfer but will have to get approval from FIFA

it makes sense for a lot of reasons. it's just a way to numerically replace a player

But we can only get a CB who's either injured or warming the bench and is most likely a scrub, or maybe not, but Zubi and co will most likely sign a scrub. That's the difference.

Yes, this depends on the situation... First, there are at least 15 other clubs in the league that would kill to sign what we call scrubs, especially if they have injured players, and second, a team like Barcelona shouldn't be in a situation like this, we should have a competent squad that is perfectly planned, buuuuuuut

you're taking the word scrubs in the wrong context. By scrub I mean a player who is most likely not good enough to even play for his own team (it is Liga correct? So you get to buy a Rayo/Celta/Deportivo bench/stand warmer yay!) or is so past it that his team didn't give him a contract (very rarely FA are actually good players not 34 years+)
Plus Flavia I am pretty sure Lopez was gotten in the winter window as I don't believe he was a FA or played less than 5 games for Sevilla

The player doesn't have to be from La Liga AND played less than 5 games. It's one or the other. So Laporte, Inigo Martinez, Mikel San Jose, Nyom, etc. are fair game. At least as far as I can tell.

The winter windows coincided, but they could sign another player because of iker's injury, regardless.

It has to be a player from la liga, or a free agent. I don't know nothing about the 5 games limit. It wasn't like that last season, only if rfef changed it for this season.
