Casado is absolutely CDM, even more than Bernal. He was always a CDM unlike Bernal himself who is fairly new to this position.

Him being used as CM comes down to Flick preference, mainly due to Casado physical limitations, which is less exposed as CDM.

Bernal was clearly the better of the two last season when both played and most adept to play DM.

I wouldn't compare this injury to Fati's or Gavi's. This one is quite strange. ACL's shouldn't break so easily like in this case. This is shocking. His body probably wasn't ready for a first team football.
