3 - Alejandro Balde

He runs, he tries, he's alright defensively, he attacks with some success - but he also fails a lot. In the perfect of worlds he would be a decent backup for a starting LB - but he isn't the biggest "problem" in our squad - he'll do until we find a Lewa replacement, until Araujo fucks off, until we find a backup LW/RW because Yamal needs to mature and Raphinha needs to rest and until we find another CB because again Araujo is terrible.

He's too limited and crippled by that dead right leg. Not much of a beast at a back either. Erratic Cancelo was way more versatile.
He’a not that limited. It’s just that he’s still lacking in what is one of most important areas and that is cross. But hes much more comfortable carrying ball than say alba. Gotten better turning and weaving and getting past players.

Very happy with his 2025 performances. I was one of his biggest critics when he stagnated in the last season under Xavi and his last pass into the box was terrible.
He has still a lot of room to improve, but he's on the right track again and if he keeps improving under Flick, he'll be our starting LB for a decade to come.
Would be a huge gift if Flick manages with Balde what he did with Davies.

Still think his role in team is leaving him knackered as game goes on.

He is being asked to have that whole left side and that is near enough impossible to maintain.

That's fine if we have a straight sub of a similar profile who can consistently step in at the 60 (and vice versa).

Koeman in his first turn at Netherlands, and other coaches too, used to get their wingers to go all out for 60-70 and then sub them.

We could do that with Balde provided the right cover is there.

He's been our entire Left wings for 2.3 seasons now.

People don't understand how difficult it that is.

Keep repeating it but that's one of the main reasons I want a actually LW to switch things up some time and give him someone to play off.

It will help his game considerably.

He is doing more running now than under Xavi.

In that league win season FDJ was used a lot to cover him going forward and helping him in build up play as an option on the left.

Similar to what he was doing yesterday on right with Cubarsi as Fort offered next to nothing to beat the press in build up.

There is no DM on that side helping him like that now and also Raphinha is given a lot of freedom to get in and around box and come centrally wherees Gavi at AM was more positioned there and to press in that area.

Its a lot for Balde and near every game he gets worse as it goes on and looks tired.

But that is the players have and its working so far just a bit harsh if claim he is poor as often as made out for me. He is having a decent season and still young to improve.

Some good points but then ignore how much Raphinha comes back to help break the press and makes himself available nevermind his immense defensive output on that left side (stark opposite of Lamine).

Dont think Raphinha does come back as much as that he more presses on the front foot and even if he does he is getting back from high up park anyway and not the same has having someone deeper to cover.

Lamine works hard to press and get back also.
