4 - Ronald Araújo

I guess if you are not liked by a section of the mob, you get blamed and castigated for things that are not even your fault.

Araujo played well(he made few pacy recoveries to bail the team out when Inigo was out of position). He might have been poorer than others in playing out from the defence but to push him under the bus for Lewandoski not being able to control a simple pass and losing out to a player behind him is taking it too far. The genesis of that goal came from Lewandoski being sluggish to a ball he had a clear advantage on.

I believe he is still paying heavily for Xavi's ineptitude in the UCL Barca vs PSG match last year.

Inigo and Cubarsi will be the first choice to finish the season, so much is clear. He's way too unreliable sadly in his passing and positioning.

😆 🤣..... lots of whinny emotions floating all around here.

I would take a defender that is 95% in defending and 10% in passing over and above the one that has 99% in pass accuracy but 25% at defending, 366 days out of 365 . The first job of a defender is to stop or prevent goals, any other thing is added.

Just like the GK situation where there has been a rabid but myopic obsession with ball playing keepers rather than a shot stopping one. I agree with those who opined that Barca could have had more UCLs if we had a Martinez or a Cortouis for a keeper instead of insisting on the one that can play out from the back but freezes when shots are fired at his goal.

I see a lot happy to point out his flaws but blind enough to a few timely interceptions in the match and one occasion where his pace bailed Inigo out in the first half when Inigo was poorly positioned. Hell....some are still unforgiving because of his refusal to apologise or accept to be the scape goat for Xavi's poor game management.

Like someone mentioned above, he is in a situation where he is castigated for not able to pass but damned if he tries to do it.

He will forever remain the fall guy for Xavi's incompetence. It is typical.

Araujo can improve, he's not 34. The injury from last summer took its toll and it displays mainly with some of Flick's fundamentals from early season like offside traps.

Caused the goal. Gifted like 5 passes straight to the opposition. Your overly simplistic view of defenders just having to defend is outdated.

You disagree about Cuba and Inigo being clear?

Don't think he was that bad.
Either way, he is among 15 outfitted players Flick mostly uses and he is very much needed as rotation option.

Almost scored from that corner.
