5 - Carles Puyol

puyol wondering his role at the club is understanding as he is getting older and other players are becoming better. i think it is fair to say last season was pretty bad for puyol in the CB position and lets see if he can bounce back from that. but i would want to lock him up for life as he was key in both clasicos and also also the CL final against the mancs. he shows up for every big game

Is Puyol considered as a barca youth product? because the last time i checked he was signed by barca at the age of 18.

didn't he play for his home town when he was a youngster as Goalkeeper before he came to barca ? lol

not really...he joined at 17 and we turned him into a defender. There's no way in hell Rooney is a Man U product though

I doubt it's a money thing. I think he is doing what is best for himself and for the club. Unlike with Etoo where it was never certain what he was doing, or what he was going to do in the future.

Puyol has also had an excellent past with the Barca board and team, unlike Etoo.

So to me it comes down to him wanting to see where he stands at. He has one season left on his contract, and if he feels he should re-new he will. If not, he will play out this season and then make a decision about his future later on.

All he really wants is clarification on his role at the club.

What if he doesn't renew? Does he leave for free? Will everyone be okay with that?

I'm 100% sure everyone will be ok with it. Because, unlike Etoo:

1. Puyol has been a loyal servant for this club for a long LONG time.
2. Puyol has never cause problems in the dressing room.
3. Puyol is not outspoken.
4. Puyol did not drag it into a media frenzy battle.
5. Puyol would be leaving for legitimate reasons.
6. Puyol has no where near the same transfer value as Etoo.
7. At 31 (or 32 at the end of next season), if he leaves it will be after his prime.
8. Unlike Etoo, we have replacements for Puyols position. If he leaves for free, we will be allright, if Etoo had left for free, we would have to be paying shitloads for a new striker because we have no backup for that position (imagine how high Ibra would cost WITHOUT the Etoo swap).

I'm from the US and its sort of disappointing to see some of you putting down US fans. I'm willing to bet I understand the current Barcelona team much better than most of you and follow just as closely. I wish the US had higher quality football but unfortunately thats not the case.

I think most of us understand that Ray Hudson isn't the Buddha of soccer; however which commentators actually DO know what they are talking about?! Needle in a haystack imo. I rather listen to a jolly, old argentinian man babble out how awesome Messi is than some douchebag calling out names as they pass the ball to eachother... And its no secret that he loves Barcelona. So how about you step off his balls?

"The only thing missing is an 'ah' "- Pertaining to "Messi". That made me laugh, I dont know about you.

Most European commentators suck. Even the spanish ones. Ray is one the few, even though he does talk a lot of shit, that is at least exciting to listen to. But that's just what I think. I'd rather listen to that then some "expert" analyzing every aspect of the game and whatnot.
