5 - Carles Puyol

Puyol was one of my favorites since he first came on the field in 1999 just when I started supporting Barca, and he has been my favorite more or less ever since. In my opinion, the greatest barca player there has been for at least the last 20 years. Maybe not the always best player, but the greatest.

When you think about it what he has done is probably best for the club he could have seen out the last two years of his contract which is prob no less than 100k pw so he is saving the club at least 10.4 million in wages alone. Now the
club has extra funds to go after a top class defender. In sayin all that im really going to miss him he was mr barca

The day has come. You're going. It might be the way of life, but it's impossible to imagine a Barça without you. When I look back and remember Paris or Rome, the first image that come to my mind is you lifting the European Cup. At Wembley, you gave the honour to Abi, a gesture that makes you even greater. My generation and those that come after us don't know a Barça without Puyi in the back four, with the armband and the number '5' on the back. I guess nothing will be the same.

I met you almost 6 years ago. You are the captain and the symbol of the team and I am a youngster eager to conquer the world. From the first day we had a great relation, both on and off the pitch. At your side, I felt protected, I knew that if I failed one day, you would be there to save me. You are my guardian angel.

I want you to know that I will miss our chats in the dressing-room, your advice and, above all, your "scolding" on the pitch. you are unique and unrepeatable. I have to laugh when they talk about signing 'the new Puyol'. They can keep on looking, because they never will find him.

Thanks for everything, Puyi."

This for me. What's happened today is a measure of the sort of guy Puyol is. Puts the club before himself again. For me, the greatest Barcelona player ever, without a shadow of a doubt. If anyone ever personified a football club it was him.

His celebration in the Bernabau in the 6-2 game is a simply glorious moment in Barca and Catalan history. Hero.

If feels like the heart and soul is being ripped out of the team with him and Valdes leaving. Two of the only players in the squad who are natural leaders and keep others in line.

I lurk on this forum, but I decided to join today because I wish to pay tribute to Puyi, my favorite football player and Barca player of all time.

Hurts me deeply to see him go, he is without a doubt the most inspirational footballer I have ever seen in my entire life. What amazes me most about Puyol is the fact that his philosophies on the pitch can be applied anywhere in life by anybody. His hard work, tenacity, desire, motivation, leadership, positivity, drive...you name it are all examples which I strive to follow in my daily life. He is a prime example of what hard work can achieve. I have no shame in saying that he is (and will continue to be) one of my greatest role models in my life.

I am still overwhelmed every time I see him on the pitch. His intensity and leadership gives me goosebumps and always makes me smile. When he scored last weekend, I found it very difficult not to get a little emotional.

It would bring me much joy to see him come back and take a role in management at Barca, I personally believe he would do an excellent job, he has all the right characteristics and is Barca to the very core.

For me, the greatest Barca player ever and my favorite player of all time.

Thank you El Capitan.

Ruined my day, week, year...

I'm also surprised that he didn't announce his retirement, but only that he was leaving the club. I honestly thought that if he ever felt like he couldn't keep up, he would quit football entirely, not just Barca.

I think it's safe to say now that this is the end of this generation, as it is known. Not necessarily in terms of success (although that has deteriorated some already), but in terms of identity. With Abidal and Villa already gone, and now two of our captains leaving at the end of the season, the Barca from 2014/2015 on will be something completely different.

Still can't believe he's leaving. The respect and admiration I have for this guy is beyond description. Thank you Carles!

Barçapocalypse NOW!
The fact that after all the shitstorms that have surrounded our club lately, you rarely hear his name speaks volumes of this guy's dedication, character and compromise...

People talk all kinds of smack about Messi, Xavi, Valdés, Piqué, Cesc, Busi, Pedro and others, but very seldom you hear something against Puyol, and that silence tells a story a million words can not...
