There is no guarantee Gavi will ever develop into a world class midfielder and if he does it might take 3-4-5 more years before he's there. So passing on Bernardo Silva, a true world class midfielder if available for a reasonable fee would be foolish IMO. Especially when he is such a good fit too stylistically.

Best way to become an elite team is through tough competition at every position in the team. If Gavi is good enough he'll force his way into the lineup or get a lot of minutes.
