7 - Philippe Coutinho - V1

Why not compare them? Think about for how much we would sell Alena for. Just because Coutinho cost a lot, he isn't suddenly from another planet.

We’d sell Alena for 50m at the very most rn. Coutinho cost 160m. You don’t pay 160m for average Joe, 160m is the price of a supposed player from another planet. Plus the kid Alena is already outperforming him in the little playing time he gets, so does 40m man Malcom as well.

Coutinho is a huge flop and it’s crystal clear.

We would be idiots to sell Alena for 50m.
And we don't really know why Coutinho is underperforming, a proper manager would have addressed this issue long time ago.

FDJ is the most promising CM in the world, he's only a few months older than Alena, FDJ will have between 50 and 100 pro games in his legs by the end of this season. His price was 75m. Ndombele, the other hugely hyped CM prospect, will probably leave Lyon for 70-80m.

Alena is 21 years old and has played 10 pro games in his career, most of the them as a sub or against Segunda B level teams in CDR. The kid is managed in the worst possible way by this board and coach. We'd be idiots to sell him for 50m ? Yes, probably. We'd be dumb to sell him, period. But if this board decides to sell him, no club will offer significantly more than 50m. Given that biggest and most hyped prospects with real high level experience at his position are priced 75-80m.

He was fantastic last season when we played 4-4-2. Ever since EV changed our system back to 4-3-3, and decided to play him out of position, he has been struggeling. He is a world class player at LM/AM but not LW.

Wait what? Nike paid the transfert fee?
I don't mean Nike directly paid the transfer fee. But for me he is more like a marketing signing than football signing.

His Nike and Brazil background is perfectly fit to fill the vacancy left by Neymar.

Of course it's just my speculation.

I don't buy the "out of position" argument anymore at this point. That doesn't explain everything about his awful form. He mostly plays in the same are no matter if it's 4-4-2 or 4-3-3 on paper anyway and the mistakes he makes don't just come from playing 10m higher or deeper.

It's not like we use him as a CB or something, the difference isn't that big. He just plays worse in pretty much every aspect of his game no matter where he plays at the moment.

Why that is? Who knows. Maybe last season he didn't feel as much pressure seeing as he was still a new signing, everyone knew he needs time. He couldn't play in CL anyway and we still got Iniesta etc but after the summer the pressure was really on. He knew he had to deliver now, he had his time, Iniesta is gone, now it's on. Dembele had his problems outside the pitch but even at his young age had the confidence to come back even after media fired at him nonstop where Cou seems like it's really getting to his head. I don't think a simple change up in formation would fix that.

Maybe another manager yes, but not because that one would call his position LM or put him in midfield, more because Cou may need some other type of manager than Ernie just from a personal relationship point of view. But in the end the enormous fee will always be there, the high expectations will always be there. Either he can deal with it and this was just some long ass streak of weak form or he's not gonna make it.

He isn't a fucking winger, Valverde has no idea how to utilise him, it must destroy the confidence of this guy knowing that whatever he does the carthorse that is Rakitic is still getting back in the starting 11.

A trade Coutinho <--> Hazard would be killing two birds with one stone, beating RM and getting the best winger in the world

Sunday Mirror Sport can reveal that he has spoken with a number of Manchester United players about a potential £100million switch to Old Trafford.

Maybe a trade for Martial ?

Kinda funny when Valverde stated how Malcom needed to be better in tracking back awhile back.

A good critique obviously but the funnier thing is, Coutinho is worse in that regard than both Dembele and Malcom.
