7 - Philippe Coutinho - V1

A shame that many users here and fans as a whole seem to be "praising" Coutinho for a bang average performance (considering his insane price tag, expectations and past performances in Liverpool) against a bang average Lyon side. That goal was created by Arthur and Messi. 90% (if not more) users here, even those that have never kicked a football in their lives, would have scored that goal.

At least he did not look as pathetically bad as usual and he did not look like a depressive guy that did not want to be on the pitch for once. So that is indeed positive but not impressed by his actual performance at all.

Surely a better performance than pretty much all of his many recent performances but that does not mean that he had a "great" performance. Just a testament of how little fans expect of him nowadays and how disappointed we have been with his performances.

Good performance imo. Much better atttitude and his passing was on point today. Needs to repent his sins this year in CL by being decisive.

Well, with Dembélé likely being out of the first quarter-finals leg and likely the second (at least he will be completely rusty and have zero match fitness with all likelihood unless that 1 month out is the club inventing a false duration of his injury to make him miss the NT break, doubtful), he will have plenty of opportunities to try to live up to his insane transfer fee. If not getting injured himself.

That and the Atlético game at the Camp Nou in early April (6 April).

Shame barcawhinersforum has quite a few making it barcaprickfanforum.

The 160 mil is a thing of the past. Right now he is our 4th best forward. So with our 2nd best with a hamstring injury we want him to keep growing into better form and grow in team fit/role--not complicated from a roster perspective and barca winning perspective.

Btw it was suarez that all but handed him a goal and Suarez was very cheery for him. If hisbblood/sweat brother looks at it like that not sure why the tv fans cant.

Not sure if trolling or taking the piss here? I am not here to judge who the better or worser fan is but I am a lifelong fan and club member. I am, have always been and will always support every single of our players, managers etc. So the narrative of being a bad fan that you are insinuating, I cannot take seriously with all due respect. Yet to comment on you in such a fashion although I easily could say a few things based on your location and nationality alone but that would be foolish.

However I am not going (nor will any sane fan) forget his transfer fee, the huge expectations that surrounded his move, the idiotic talk of him being the perfect replacement of Iniesta (a narrative that I already destroyed on this very forum and elsewhere almost 1 year before we actually bought him when 90% of everyone else was singing the same praises of MD and Sport) etc.

I already told you what differentiates Spanish football fans and Southern European football fans in general, especially of the two Spanish giants and elite clubs in Italy, from the US counterparts. We are very critical which is due to the very high standards at said clubs. It is part and parcel of what (among numerous other things) have made the clubs what they are. Only the best succeed. TONS of MUCH better players than Coutinho have failed for us.

Pretending that Coutinho somehow had a brilliant game, (and no I won't look past his transfer fee, expectations, the level he showed for Liverpool etc. just to be nice and live in La La Land) and me disagreeing with this narrative has nothing to do with being a "prick", lol. More like speaking the uncomfortable truth.

Coutinho had a decent game compared to his many recent stinkers but that is about it. Mostly in the first half as well. Was invisible when the going got tough until Messi turned up and decided the tie.

I am rightly going to and will keep expecting more from not only Coutinho but any player performing this badly compared to his price tag and previous expectations. You might not like this or any criticism labelled towards the team. Not really my problem. Skip such posts if they bother you.

BTW, what do you say about my take on Dembélé's injury and situation post-Saturday? Turns out that I was, unfortunately, right once again. So much for having him on the bench if not fully ready.

2 guys (not you) pretty much want him to be injured--that is just ridiculous from a humannpoint of view, and bad from the barca performance point of view.

I for one would never want to be associated with the spoiled whiney impatient madristas type fans. I think bale's agent had valid points. Players (who bleed and sweat) know it is sport and support other players as long as they are giving full effort, some fans just cross the edge. I think they are entitled and sick, and most important don't help the cause of their team. I have booed & whistled myself, but very rarely not directed at the other team , player or ref. It takes a extra special lack of effort or stupidity for me to boo my own team/players.

My perspective anyway

For a forward, as long as he does not do really destructive things like commit penalties or create counters by the opponents, what is important is that he does good things. Coutinho did that yesterday, hurrah. Did he make errors? Who cares! Messi tries things all the time that don't work, I have no problem at all with the other Barca forwards also failing in most of their attempts. Just keep up the frequency of goal creating brilliancies, the Barca foursome of star forwards are the best in the world at that.

Apologies. Ignore my post completely then. However it is difficult to know who you are referring to exactly when writing such posts (without quoting the users/posts that you want to reply to) just below a post that I wrote earlier today. It could easily be confused as a reply of post just written above much like what you are doing in the post of yours that I am replying to right now.

Anyway I have not read the recent pages of this thread (rarely do in any thread as otherwise I would be spending hours a day to read everything) so missed those previous comments.

Obviously wishing injury on any player is idiotic and even more so one of our own. No doubt about that.

Well, to be honest, I don't consider my critisicm of Coutinho to be unfair unless you are referring to someone else here?

Surely we both have to agree that not only has Coutinho been a misfit so far, he has been pathetically bad this season so far compared to his transfer fee, his expectations and his talent that most of us are well aware of, hence my mention of his past performances for Liverpool. Could have mentioned the most recent World Cup where he was arguably the most important offensive outlet of Brazil.

Rest we agree on so no biggie.
