Why is this guy still relevant? This train is gone and will land next year in Paris when Neymar "the manager" will text him to conquer the world.

Jurgen Klopp has been speaking about Philippe Coutinho after Liverpool rejected a second bid for the midfielder from Barcelona.

"From a financial standpoint, there is no price limit to let him go or a price that we are ready to give in," Klopp told Sky Germany. "Our goal is to have the best possible team. So we want to keep our guys and add new ones. That is our plan.

"Today no player on the planet is untouchable. But a transfer is also a question of timing and if you have the opportunity and the need to react to such a transfer.

"Also you have to ask, if you have the time to react. But just because of one request of one club, we don’t have to think about that. We are not in that situation.

"Liverpool is not a club that has to sell players. That is set in stone. So what they pay in the end doesn’t matter."

Looks to me klopp has talked/convinced the board members who were contemplating selling him around and -my guess- this deal or potential deal is dead

LFC board likes money. They could still fuck up Klopp if we offer something really big.

how come top club like bayern manage to sign good players without spending such crazy money? how much did they pay for dortmund top player lewandovski or götze? already proven players real also started to do the same, best way to adapt is to invest money in scouting and bring player before his price goes sky high, for example isco from malaga or dembele from rennes, if barca continue buy like this, 130 for one player and dont manage to sell their players who are not worth being in the squad then this type of business is not sustainable.

before neymar price were also sky rocket, the thing is psg payed for release clause and they got superstar player who is already in top 3, not player like dembele who is still just a talent, comparing who will win more if barca pays 150 for dembele or 222 for neymar, i think psg.

thread is about coutinho, i see him as a good iniesta replacment but would not go over 100 m

I don't disagree with you, I was just talking about the general change in the market after Neymar's transfer that will affect all clubs.

I suggested in one of the threads a few weeks ago that we should use relatively low buyout clauses in La Liga in our favour to get more domestic talent under our control (possibly loaning them out if they are not ready/don't have a place in our first team yet). I would take a risk with Ceballos (15M) or Pablo Fornals (11M) this season, and maybe Jorge Mere who went to Germany for 7M although we already have some promising CBs. And of course there are other players in La Liga and Ligue 1, that we could still get relatively cheaply. That would be a smart long-term thinking.

But right now we need a replacement for Neymar and I think Dembele is the best bet for that. He can help us next season and for the next 6-8 years, possibly more. I'm not as willing to spent crazy money on Coutinho even if he's more established player but I believe Seri is more than a good backup plan for him and we can get him for 80-100M less. Then there are also other solid options like Trigueros. But if Valverde truly doesn't want anyone of them then I'm ok with staying what we have in midfield and give more chances to Samper and Alena. I know people demand a worldclass midfielder (there are not a lot of them available though) but I'm not one of them so I won't hold it against the board if they won't be willing to pay 150M for Coutinho. For me our poor midfield play last season was 90% on Lucho's tactics and I fully believe Valverde will get more out of the players. So it won't be the end of the world if we won't get Coutinho and if Valverde will reject Seri and other possible midfielders and stick with what we have.

Mate, What is the matter with everyone not taking their time to actually read the post they're responding to.
You're the second person who quickly responded without taking a look at what's written.

Sorry man. This week is very busy for me so far and this year it is very hard to stay in the loop with all those rumours flying around every day.

Doesn't matter what I think.

"Also you have to ask, if you have the time to react. But just because of one request of one club, we don’t have to think about that. We are not in that situation.

That's the main problem. We're too late with these bids. The Prem starts this Saturday for them and worse Lallana is injured. It would really be stupid for them to lose Coutinho now because the timing is bad. I would take Coutinho in a heartbeat but i understand the position Klopp is in here.

Don't know if it's real. Why would Klopp have an interview with Sky Germany while he is coaching a big English club and Sky England is much bigger?

You really think Coutinho should be the 2nd most expensive player in the world?

This is just trivia. You need to offer something that's worth as much or more to Liverpool than Coutinho is. At this stage in the season with no obvious replacement, that should obviously be a lot.
