8 - Pedri

Or even Pjanic if Puig is out. Ilaix is good when you need to score and the other team is defending / parking the bus. Or in the De Jong role if you don't use De Jong as box to box type.

It’s been clear since January that he doesn’t need to start EVERY match. He has been bad/dead for a while.

Just start Iliax for a couple matches.

Ilaix had a VERY bad appearance today. Lost the ball multiple times, got nutmegged twice, gave away free kicks, lost duels. The only good thing he did was appearing for two chances, which he missed in terrible ways though.

Pedri hasn't had a good game in a long while, but I think it's a bit of an overreaction by many here as they realize he isn't the wonderkid they thought a few months back. As Puig and Pjanic aren't alternatives for Koeman (well enough in Pjanic's case) Pedri or Sergi Roberto are the best alternatives to start in that position. I'd rotate them, and let Ilaix get some playing time here and there too, but Ilaix is not a very good alternative right now.

The kid is in desperate need of a rest, I just hope he doesn't get injured because of muscle fatigue.

He was already injured because of muscle fatigue one time but miraculously started the next game anyway, very strange. I think he was in need of rest before that, and that he was already starting to become much slower, but maybe there was a big step in increased slowness coinciding with that situation?

Needs rest, was nothing near Spain NT level today. Granada game is good opportunity for Ilaix to start finally.

Yup, taking him out now could cause the team to be slightly unsettled. Only change I'd make is sub him off earlier.

Was his first bad game for us today.

With 6 games left I would still start him in every single one of them.

You'd start a dead tired player 3 times in 7 days? You can beat Granada at home with more rotations and fresher players. If anything it's riskier to put in a tired first 11 out there.

We already looked slow and tired in the 2nd half. We need to be sharper vs Valencia.

I'm not sure it's even physical tiredness though, when he got subbed off he completed almost 9km in the 60th minute.

It's more mental fatigue in my opinion, the first few months of the season he could barely be dispossessed by any defender, went on plenty of mazy dribbles and was feeding through balls for a past time. At one point he almost had about 4 backheel assists alone.

At the moment he's kind of dropped into this reserved and passive role, just keeping it fairly simple and nothing really offering much offensively or defensively. About 40 passes a game but nothing imaginative. Night and day from the first few months.

We could do with a CM who likes to dictate play, think he would benefit massively from having that profile alongside him.

He is playing like a lower league player, in the same gear all the time. He's jogging around in a way that is close to a 60min 10km, which is a terrible pace I'd expect every poster here to manage.
He walks too little and sprints too little. This was different at the start of the season.

Another thing is he is always moving towards the ball, not using space well. He still manages to keep the ball in the team most of the time because of his great technique, but he gets the ball in bad spots and rarely is able to progress it well.
