8 - Pedri

Which players didn't get Covid yet?

Well, mostly those who started against Mallorca (MATS, Araujo, Eric, Pique, Oscar, FDJ, Nico, Puig, LDJ) plus Neto, Busi, Ansu, Memphis and Braithwaite. The last three were injured and mostly trained apart from the team AFAIK so probably weren't that exposed but it's quite likely they'll get it now that they're back with the team again.

Not sure about Barca B players who were called up for last game and probably some of them will also be a part of the team for Copa game tomorrow.

I think so but that doesn't mean he can't get it again after 6-7 months.

I was only thinking about players who were positive over the last week as those are who are really important now.

For example Roberto also had it last year but he's out for 3-4 months and not training with the team anyway.

And it's possible some of the other guys had it during summer when on holidays and not tested as regularly as well.

Should be perfect for Xavis midfield if keeps playing the same approach as have recently.

More or less two AMs on left/right who are asked to get in between lines and create space for wide players/forwards.

Played in same area to a too standard during Euros.

Needs to add goals but ability on the ball he is probably the one most suited to that position in squad right now.

Pedri AML
Fati LW
Torres CF

Big jump in quality and options to some of the line ups recently.

Agreed in a perfect would I would see way less busquets, but coach after coach seems to think he is undroppable, so no luck there.

Yeah Busquets being rotated even seems a lost cause.

When I say Pedri AML I mean just playing in role Xavi currently has in midfield so is a CM but to me seems more of an AM he wants those players to get in between the lines. Which Pedri should be perfect for.

With the way Xavi is pushing up wingers and holding back the full backs in almost DM positions at times will need a lot from Pedri in final third and opening teams up.

Needs to link wide players and CF as they are 40 yds apart at times the way team set up at moment. No surprise only two chances last game came from crosses into CF. Team was too far apart and no one linking effectively the wide players and CF.

For the first time in a while there is a solid set of midfield options once everyone’s fit. Pedri does have it in his locker to play LW so he provides a solution there too.

Think he’s going to excel under Xavi.

Busquets is the only nailed on starter in that midfield. Crazy to say that in 2022 but that’s the way it is. Gone past the point of hoping any different because you’ll just end up disappointed.

This is our biggest issue. After multiple embarrassing efforts and games certain players are still starters and no end in sight. It's depressing.

Sure, they used to be good but that was five years ago...

If you can't get excited about what is ahead with this young team under Xavi, Laporta et al - Barca is not for you

Not that I rate Busquets, but:

Frenkie showed more or less nothing in 3 years. Playing in a GOAT level ghost mode against any bigger opponent.
Gavi is 17, has a nice fighting spirit, has a decent action here and there, but for now, he is mostly running around, vacating position and kicking everyone in sight.
Pedri seems to be the least bad midfielder in our midfield, but nobody is yet sure which position is his ideal role and whether he can be a leader of a midfield of he is just a sideshow guy who needs leaders around him. Now, if you make him a leader and surround him with 17 year old Gavi and Frenkie who is lost, then we might be even worse than with Busi.

Again, it is not that I rate Busi, but the most likely scenario with Busi is that it will be the same as with any starter in recent years like:
1. no one can be worse than Raki, we will fly when he leaves. And today we are really flying. Like Titanic.
2. no one can be worse than Suarez, he is singlehandedly ruining every single action. His goals are not worth it. He is scoring but he is ruining everything, when he leaves we will be way better.
** He leaves, we can't score a goal against anyone. We didn't have a 4:0 or 5:0 win for years.
3. no one can be worse than Griezmann. Can't dribble, can't run, can't score.

About Busi, the first problem, who will be a pivot? If the answer is Frenkie, that's the end of a discussion, lol. Frenkie can't play on any position, especially not as a pivot.
Nico, no way.
Gavi, lol, no way.
Pedri, no way.

So, we just have a bunch of players who are ok-ish on CM positions (Pedri, Puig, Gavi, Nico, Frenkie).
The closest option to a pivot if Frenkie, but he is quite bad at defending, positioning, concentration, he is prone to horrible mistakes in the defensive third in terms of passing and dribbles, his aerial ability is non existent (not that Busi was any better, but we deserve someone who can win a header here and there).
Also, Frenkie is quite bad in build up once when the ball is in the opponent's half.
He is good at press resistance (like Arthur) and getting the ball from our box to the opponent's half, but once when the ball is in the opponent's half, a large part of Frenkie's brain enters into an auto-shutdown mode and then we play with 2 midfielders and the 3rd guy is sleeping in the standby mode.
