8 - Pedri

We ended last night with De Jong-Pedri. I was far more concerned with Olmo's contributions and turnovers than the double pivot.

But it was a great move by Flick if it was by design. Wait for Modric to come on and exploit the space with Olmo in the hole. He could have had 3 assists when he come on.

Random thought, now we see why every coach when given the choice, has chosen him over Olmo for Spain.

No shade for Olmo who is great.

But the talent Pedri has, is different level.

All the shade at the euros about him getting injured was a blessing, like I said then, fuck all that, they are still winning it with Pedri.

He was getting better with every game.

Olmo is class though, Ruiz is the odd man out going forward.

De La Fuente used Pedri for the first half and Olmo for the second. So it was a tactical move, not player quality.

With Pedri producing a top class season, and Olmo being a top player himself, now with De jong, Gavi, coming back, we can pick and choose the midfield tactically depending on opponent.

Pressing team, you focus on ball retention with De Jong and Pedri. Team that sits back and defends deep, only with sporadic counters, you can even go Pedri - Olmo at the same time. A plethora of options for Flick to play with, provided all stay healthy. This Barca midfield is building up to be a nightmare to block, so many options with many different profiles, while not one, maybe except for Fermin, being substandard in terms of first touch and technical ability in tight spaces.

When we will finally have all fit at the same time it will look deadly in Flick's design.

A fit Pedri is a joy to watch for sure, rarely lose a ball under pressure. When all fit we have so much options to rotate and manage their minutes so hopefully the squad stays fit now. Everybody is used to Flick's training so adaptations are already here, curious if we see improvements being made on the injury side of the team.

You always start with your best players, so it was very much about who he thought was the better player.

2nd half subs are always tactical regardless of the player, bar injuries.

No shade at Olmo who is again great.

Olmo had a shocking opener versus Croatia. Come on and was extremely selfish frustrating everyone. Never even featured against Italy.

It was only really against Georgia that he started to shine off the bench and no one really wanted for him to come on for Pedri against Germany, where Spain were in control for the first minutes of the match.

But he had an incredible impact with the goal which turned his tournament around and the rest is history. Thougb DLF done his best to fuck it all up taking off his widemen like an amateur.

It's amazing how small moments can completely change a narrative.

I'm a Pedri fanboy but cmon, Olmo is far superior in Euro 2024. And i'm certain Pedri could not do what Olmo did vs Germany, France and England.

Small moments like goal and winning assist vs Germany, winning goal vs France, a winning clearance vs England in final.

He is one of tournament's MVPs.

He took the mantle with open arms.

And coupled with world class attackers in Lamine/Nico and now at Barca, he is showing that he is a top tier player.

Agreed. They don't even play the same position.

Just straight up BS being posted here, Pedri wasn't top in offensive stats.

Please spare us your random thoughts next time!
