8 - Pedri

Yes, people were writing that he was better in an advanced or number 10 role. For me he has always been a deeper lying player. I don't think he has the killer edge or shooting to play in a more advanced role, though admittedly his ability in tight spaces can be an advantage closer to goal, near the D etc.

I do believe he is better deeper though, pulling the strings and controlling the game. It seems the forum is a little split on this but to me that is definitely the player he has always been,
Watch some of Zidane's highlights and he also didn't really have the killer pass or shoot in him either (compare to other top attacking 10).

Pedri can refer to Zidane's style of play if he continues to play as a 10 (very likely). Though Pedri does not have Zidane's physicality/body balance. Zidane liked to held on the ball/dribble, not only thanks to his technique but also his body strength that made it hard to push him off the ball.

Pedri also doesn't have the agility/quick acceleration, burst of Iniesta or Neymar.

He will always have this disadvantage when he plays in an advanced role.

Fair enough. That's mostly true on Zidane. He generally had a better shot than Pedri though, but yeah he wasn't a G/A merchant or obsessed with productivity.

I just feel Pedri is better deeper as some here do. Some feel he's better in attacking areas but he just doesn't look right there to me at all, generally.

Well i'm not saying which Pedri's best role is. Just saying if he continues to play as a 10 and wants to excel, he must have some tweaks in his game.

I see more similarites between Pedri and Zidane rather than Iniesta. Both are two footed, elegant player. But Pedri doesn't have Zidane's body strength and frame which is his disadvantage.

Zidane himself wasn't just roam around final third but all over the pitch as a 10. Pedri should play like that as a 10 rather than trying to play like Olmo.

Fair enough. I know what you mean - Iniesta might be a lazy comparison just because of body type and nationality, and club allegiance. Like you say, Pedri doesn't have Zidane's physicality or strength. And yeah, Zidane was much more than just a final third player - he played everywhere in the final two thirds.

I don't know about you, but I think Pedri is a difficult player to categorise.
