8 - Pedri

Solid game. Not a lot of noise but it's not really needed when Alba, Griezmann, Dembele, Messi, Dest and even Busi are providing offensively.

Had a good game overall: active with and without the ball, conducting the tempo, and enabling others to shine.

I didn't see this. And to be honest, I doubt you saw it either, I think most of these things you wrote are buzzwords and you filling in gaps of what you didn't see him do in the game.

He was the Barcelona player after Dembele to see the least of the ball, most players made at least 1,5 the amount of passes he did... This "conducting the tempo" is a bit of a mythical thing for a footballer to do once the player is associated with doing it, just like doing "quiet work most people don't see". I think Pedri had a very quiet game and didn't bring very much, but he didn't look as dead tired as in some other games the last month. I expect a lot more from a Barcelona midfielder though.

Think you are being harsh on Pedri as he brings a lot to the team. In this 3-4-3 system, he's playing more near the base, closer to Busquets rather than playing between the lines as he did before since Griezmann is doing that. This does not allow him to be "flashy" and makes you think he's not doing much. Pedri is amazing at stealing balls from the opponents, keeps things moving in the build up and fills in holes to maintain the shape of the team (for example when Griezmann drops deep, Pedri pushes up that brings his marker with him). It's incredible that he's only 18 years old and he already has a great understanding of the position game.

It's no coincidence that Koeman plays Pedri a lot as he is very versatile and brings a lot of quality. Also another reason why Lucho called him up in the national team.

Are we still falling for Bobo's trolling in March 2021?

Going to have to do harder than masquerade obvious trolling as "contrarian takes", dawg.

Bobo broke his own rule. If he had followed Pedri with his mouse pointer, he would have seen his true value.

Don't disrespect him. He means different kind of pointer.

People who say he reminds them of Iniesta, surely they mean post-2016-Iniesta? The conservative, reliable passer, 'couple of nice moves a game but not much else' version of Iniesta

Or else they must not remember very well how aggressive, bold, assertive and purposeful a player he was when he was young and had his body with him.

It's mostly because of some of his moves, like the gliding/wiggling dribble technique. His overall play is more of a pivot than attacker.
