I usually agree a lot with allasfcb:s videos. What are your thoughts on this video?

Obviously it was succesful, but as I see it, Pedri should be more open when first recieving, able to find Araujo, not dropping so deep to recieve it. I also think he was a bit slow in the movement afterwards, despite being fast enough for Mats to find him. Had the press been a bit faster there would be trouble...
It was nice though, the first part with the instant pass back due to not being prepared for the next move reminds me of Rakitic, but Rakitic would probably be hiding afterwards and force Mats to play it long...

I think he's struggling to take the next step from proving himself as a promising youngster to actually making the difference in these games.

He has to take more chances and be more cheeky. He has try things even if it means risking his status as everybody's favorite precocious Iniesta regen who never makes mistakes.

nope pedri looks comfortable here. rakitic on the other hand looked shaky as fuck - like he was gonna shit his pants - whenever he was under that kind of pressure

Bobo criticizing Pedri for nothing, but keeping quit and finding excuses for Puig playing stupidly in the last minutes. Even though Pedri is still only 18, while Puig shouldn't be considered a talent anymore.

Here is a stat (counter-pressures) that shows
1) how talented this kid is (5th in Europe)
2) how much Koeman has improved the counter-pressing of this team (Busquets in the top20 in Europe!!)

Pedri made the right move to move around the press with as little risk.

To be honest from the still shot you can see 6 Valladolid players in frame. Stegen should probably have gone long instead of trying to build from the back there. We were 5 vs 4 in there half of the pitch.

Worked out well in any case.

The thing is he's still a promising youngster and will be for the next 2-3 years whilst he's learning/developing. If he doesn't get any better by 24 then yeah he never took the next step but right now it is so early to say.

I'm a huge fan of his potential but people have to be realistic about it too. He's gonna have games where he's poor, where's he fantastic, or somewhere in between. I can imagine this lad turning into an absolute phenomenon under someone like Xavi who of course was a legendary midfielder.

We played against an impaired Real Valladolid. The test for him yesterday wasn't if he could circulate the ball, avoid making mistakes and win in back a few times. That might be the test against Real on saturday.

Yesterday, the test was if he could provide penetration or dynamic movement to imbalance their setup. He didn't really do either of those things.

He played pretty much as well as Rakitic did in his last couple of seasons with us. Safe passes, a few nice moves, a lot of running, no real effect.

And for the people saying "He's fucking 18 give him a chance":

This isn't a discussion about his potential. This is about whether he ought to start every single game for us right now.

he's getting the minutes of an established starter, which means that we should judge him accordingly.

yesterday we were pacified by fucking Real Valladolid and people are out here praising our midfield when they should be asking questions

You want more penetration from Pedri, but at 18 sometimes you just got to pace yourself. Take Puig for example. He's 21 and is still penetrating none stop for 5 minutes. Anything more and Koeman doesn't trust him to have the legs.

It will come in time. He will learn when to go slow and when to speed it up, when to come thrust through with a splitting pass and when to hold back. Patience.
