I can only say that in my eyes, Suarez is a player with no sense of what the game of football is all about. He intentially do what ever he can to get unfair advantages, continually taking rediculous dives, standing on the goalline putting up both his hands high above his head and punching the ball out almost inside the goal. Then he still celebrates this blatant cheating as if its something to be proud off.

It is not part of the game, and does nothing but ruin the spirit of the game for me anyway. If it were up to me hed be banned from the entire tournament, and his 2-3 upcomming international games, for unsportmanlike behaviour!

Nah, he is not a hero. A hero is David Villa in Spains last game, a fighter, who struggles fairly and with skill and perceverance makes his country advance to the next level.

Just my two cents anyway!;)

Douche...................bag.

butt...............hurt

he is the biggest hero of the cup so far,he sacrificed everything to save the team, any one of the ghana players would have done the same, ANY other player would have done the same.

It would be different if he got away with it, but he got the red card.

national hero.

suarez/uruguay are as big of cheaters as tevez/argentina and villa/spain (unlike most people here im actually spanish and can admit it was an offside goal) are then, they score offside goals to win their games, while suarez takes a gamble to makesure his team doessnt lose.

immaculately conceived
It's not about the handball really, that's just a logical thing in that situation.

It's his reactions and behaviour. Knock the ball out: fine. But don't act like you didn't do it and pull up your lip even higher when you see the ref giving you a red card.

Anxiously waiting for the next match
I would have done the same thing.. the hand ball that is.. he single handedly saved them from elimination

I agree that Villas goal was offside, but it wasnt done purposly, Suarez ballboxing was. As others said, its not about the boxing, that is something most people would have done. Its the mentality afterwards, not beeing able to admit that it was wrong, and you got lucky. Give the other team that respect. After the wrongfully judged goal by Lampard vs Germany, Germany admitted that they got lucky.

I just dont think you purposly cheat, then shove it in the face of the opponents by celebrating the cheater as a hero.

One thing I have been wondering is what people mean when they say that Suarez sacrificed himself for the team. The penelty doesnt affect him at all does it? He cant play the next game vs Holland, without his handboxing abilities he wouldnt have anyway, since his team wouldnt play the game, off which he was very aware I am sure. So what exactly did he sacrifice?

That is probably what is most upsetting with this ruling. In a tournament where it is win or disappear situation, the punishment of losing a player is nothing compared to not going through to the next round. So there really is no reason for a player not to do what ever it takes to prevent a goal. And that is not good.

Improvin' Perfection!!
Every player thinks "I, me, Myself should play the semi-final" more than "We country should play the semi-final"... so that is indeed a sacrifice

Well if anyone deserves a statue built of them in Montevideo it's Forlan..He's still the centrepiece of everything Uruguay does and without his equalizer this never could have happened. But Suarez is definitely a hero for this.

Lugano is Uruguay's heart, Forlan is the Brain, and Suarez is the balls.

True. Especially the bold part. What's the news on Lugano? I hope his injury is not serious.

Nigeria needs to ban Suarez from international play while there at it. I've been nothing but disgusted at all the BS this guy has pulled at the WC this year. He may be able to 49 goals in 48 games for Ajax, but he'll never earn any respect with me, thats for sure.

I'm sure he cares more about Uruguay making a World Cup semifinals than he does about your respect.

Well said mate. he actually put himself on the line so that his team gets one last fighting chance !

And infact he made a terrific legitimate save just seconds before the handball. his passion and the never-say-die spirit for his team and country is beyond words. im an argentine fan and wud still love to see a player like him in the team, on any given day !!
