Because playing against negative football can look exciting?...Who are you kidding?...Only match where they actually came to play was one of the best of the tournament, against Germany

The gap in quality between Spain & the rest of the world is large enough that most countries are afraid to play them in anything resembling an open contest...That doesn't tend to make them exciting contests to watch 11 players defend their own goal

It's a Barca era

So their opponents were the ones that made them dull? So still dull then? Far from making the world cup.

not really.

they were duller than they could have been, due to their opponents, but I still thought they were pretty god damn good.

they, along with Ghana, made the World Cup an absorbing watch. it was great to see them come up against one mountainous defence after another and find a way to break them down. if they were Italian the world would have been fapping themselves silly with the manner in which they won the World Cup.

I did like Uruguay's run, because the team was more Forlan-centric, but for me it was totally soured by the way they knocked Ghana out.

wish Chile had gone further too. they would have been the REAL story if they had managed to knock Dunga and his cocksuckers out.

You know, Meta, others can have opinions on which teams made the tournament fun for them to watch.

Didn't you know, anybody who doesn't like Ghana or disagrees with Meta is a "racist".

Nobody disputed they were the strongest. But entertaining? No, they were almost consistently dull with the only breath for air being the occasional frustration of Torres. They scored fewer gols than any previous winner, and played in the most boring final ever. They did not make the tournament.

Takes a willing opponent to want to play footy, however...They made the tournament in spite of the negative football

Spain were the pre WC favourites, their opponents conceded their inferiority through their tactics & yet Spain still won...vuvuzuelas and all

I understand the fear

For the record Spain where brilliant in the knockout stages, the only time a team played football against them (Germany) Spain showed how good they really are.

Chile,Brazil,Germany,Paraguy and Holland where very good.

Uruguay where brilliant to and get extra point for knocking out the biggest cheats of the world cup in dramatic fashion.

I would love to say they made a great WC, I was living in Spain at the time. But they just didn't, and no it wasn't like Barca, Barca have amazing flair through Messi and Alves. Spain had Torres looking retatded, and scraping wins after slowly grinding teams down in their passes. It was like watching a python constricting a small mamal: slow, monotonous, inevitable. Impressive, but not entertaining.

And why has this sex pest not been removed yet?

Nolan would enjoy Uruguay even if they were the worst team in the universe. he knows this and he knows I know this.

when Nolan and I talk, it's with an understanding of each other's biases.

I fully expect him to come back and tell me I'm full of shit for saying Ghana made that World Cup. and he'll sorta disagree with my including Spain there, too.

we'll then argue the merits of Spain '10 vs. Spain '08, and conclude that while they lacked the spontaneous magic they did in '08, Spain '10 were a much more solid team, able to cope with a bigger and better variety of opponents. plus David Villa is sexy as fuck.

this ain't the first time we've had a debate. ;)
