Football wise Suarez is a great signing, everything else we can only speculate or leave it a and time will tell

Spending so much money on a player we don't really need......we might as well call ourselves Real Barcelona now. He won't help us break down parked buses, because Suárez is very space-dependant. I can easily see smart teams forcing us to put in an endless stream of crosses to our small forwards. In that scenario, he is no better than Alexis, who we just sold. I do like Suarez a lot as a player, but still..... Where is he even going to be used? On the right wing? As a striker, with Messi on the right? Are we switching to a midfield diamond with Neymar-Suarez up top and Messi as an enganche? Last season, Suarez scored his goals against minnows. He's a counterattacking striker, and arguably the best one around at that. This feels like FIFA-esque management to me. We should buy defenders, not just Galacticos up front. Our priorities are mixed up.

When you need a quality player, these days you have to spend.

We use Suarez like this:

4-2-3-1

------------GOALKEEPER--------------
--------------DEFENSE---------------
-------Busquets----Mascerano--------
Iniesta--------Messi----------Neymar-
--------------Suarez-----------------

4-3-3

------------GOALKEEPER--------------
--------------DEFENSE---------------
--------------Busquets---------------
--Rakitic/Xavi------------Iniesta------
---Suarez-------Messi------Neymar---

4-4-2 Diamond

------------GOALKEEPER--------------
--------------DEFENSE---------------
--------------Busquets---------------
--Rakitic/Xavi------------Iniesta------
---------------Messi-----------------
------Suarez----------Neymar--------

The most important thing about Suarez is his presence on the pitch. Suarez will occupy defenders because, unlike Alexis, he is a regular goal threat. And as such, this affords Messi/Neymar space, which means more chances for us to score. After our toothlessness in all competitions following the winter break of the 13/14 season, the decision to bring in a striker was to be expected. That Suarez, the world's 3rd best attacker, would be our acquisition is a pleasant surprise. Not only this, Suarez's arrival sets the template for Sandro/Dongou/Munir's inclusion into the team in the future because now they don't have to do the seemingly impossible and displace Messi.

Might I add that one of the Barca VP's were quoted as saying that the squad restructuring is only about 40% done. Centerbacks will come and the board has assured that they will spend as much needed to rebuild the squad.

^ Well, I hope so, but I'm sceptical. All our quality up front might just make opposite teams so scared that they drop very deep. The teams you put together - likely to be the ones Lucho would consider, more or less - would not be well-suited against parked buses imo. Despite all the qualities Suarez gives us: we still have the same tactical problems and Suarez is likely to be played out of position to suit Messi. If not, Messi will have to defend, and his fitness levels probably wouldn't allow him to do that.

To address the bolded, Suarez was a winger for Ajax. You also have to consider that Lucho might not play the same way as previous coaches have.

We are far more lethal up front now. Once we solidify our defense there is nothing to worry about. Back on top in no time ;)

Actually Messi doesn't need to play defense that much in number 10 position, we could have our front line come deeper in defense, forming first block with our mids and leaving Messi up front to bounce on counter, and when we are in position he free flows behind attackers having spaces for his own and also having two strikers to move defence from him but also available for pass

Not to mention that, if we play a 4-2-3-1, having both Mascherano and Busquets in midfield would really solidify our defense.

You sound like the USASoccerGuy....

Suarez is a serial flopper, to use US parlance.

Suarez did play on the wing for Ajax, I know, but more as a false winger of sorts. He had a free role, basically. His best performances, though, have been when he was fielded in central positions. He might be able to play as a winger, but that wouldn't get the best out of him, I believe. If he has to play as a winger, he would probably have to be very disciplined defensively, otherwise we will be torn to shreds by good teams on the counterattack, because Messi's work rate has dropped dramatically.

I hope Lucho finds a solution for these potential problems, but Suarez's transfer, for all his qualities, doesn't make sense to me in a tactical sense. His temperament would certainly help, and he's very dangerous individually, but I fear that we won't get the most out of him and/or our other attackers because they don't appear to be well-suited to play together in a balanced formation. For me, it feels like chucking on as many individual quality up front as we can find instead of looking for a solution that would suit the players as a team, in order to maximize their individual strengths. For that reason, I used the term 'Real Barcelona', because it reminds me of a certain club in the capital of Spain. But then again, Ancelotti found a way to field his best individual players in a rather balanced formation, so I hope I'm wrong.

Also, on a different note: a Masch-Busi double pivot is quite defensive. Busquets would need to become a taller Xavi, basically, to make it work against defensive teams. Both Masch and Busi don't strike me as very creative, so that would only add to the problems with parked buses.
