9 - Robert Lewandowski

That tells you a lot about his overall game.

I'm not even against Lewa (anymore), I give him a lot of credit for how he turned things around this season but that doesn't change the fact he shouldn't be here next season while the club will probably keep him for this + 2 seasons more.

That is totally different and I agree with you. I wouldn't be mad if he left after this season. His salary could cover pretty much any top strikers salary. But strictly speaking this season the guy gets trashed when he is doing pretty great overall.

Many would love for Haaland. He offers about 0 to the game as well and his main attributes are better finishing and aerial presence. Everything else is even worse than Lewa with 0 hope to get better. *He also has speed but how useful is that against the 5-4-1?

I do hope we get a striker this summer and I do concede we probably keep him 1 more year. Which might be 1 too long

I agree Haaland is not the answer, neither is another season of Lewa but we are probably stuck with him and we can only hope he keeps the current level which I doubt. Every season his downfall begins about this time and it looks like it could happen again. Don't really blame Lewa, he should be in Saudi but he got a Saudi level contract from us so it's a no branier to milk the club as long as he can.

0,69 per game, the expectations are very high. Plus not being a la masia darling or egomaniac like penaldo that has delusional fanboys.
Doesn't help that Barca wants it difficult, "simple" goals are looked down on.

Considering his age and the shit quality of the other players I think he overperformed, not underperformed.
If every player had Lewy's winner attitude we would be unstoppable.

Doesn't change that I don't want Barca stuck without a WC striker, because you're not even contending anything without one. Already lack that in the goal.

RL9 has way better aerial presence lmao. It's not even close.

Haaland is weak at heading for his height.

Only CR7 has more headed goals than RL9.

Also, Haaland has missed way more chances this season. Ask any City fan.

That's the thing... Lewandowski is far from the biggest problem, especially when we consider the output he is giving at 36 years of age.

I honestly believe we cannot demand more from him at this late stage in his career and we should count ourselves very lucky he's still world-class, because going into this season with a 36 year old striker as our only reliable starter was very risky.

If people have gripes over his workrate or athleticism, this is a question for the board who signed him, but from Lewandowski, I can't ask anymore than what he's doing now with his body, he is still a world-class goalscorer at 36, and a lot of the criticism is unfair.

That being said, I hope he doesn't keep throwing games like he did yesterday

You can't expect a 36 year old to pop up everywhere on the pitch and play like Prime Kante lol.

As players grow older they turn into more of a poacher or drop deeper into a more playmaking role.

RL9 provides an aerial ball outlet from deep. He's great at directing long balls to his teammates with flick ons or winning fouls against CBs. This helps the Barca CBs and GK in possession.

This is where the discussion gets interesting. Should we put age as a factor on judging players current performances? Or we should judge everyone based on their current role.

This is important not just for old player like Lewandowski, but also for younger ones.

I appreciate Lewa scoring, and I look around Europe top clubs, and I see that just scoring 20 goals (all comp) per season isn't a usual thing for many no 9 in big clubs. Those who are capable of doing it, they don't press that much either. It is usually those who aren't who do this stuff.

Scoring can get underrated at times. Without Lewa we won't be Liga Champions for 6 consecutive years now. He was a good and well calculated signing.

His main issue is off the ball movement is now worse, and his ability to connect and play with his back to goal is worse. Those are serious issues but it feels more like a fatigue thing, hence why Hansi is subbing him more. I think he was stupid to not retire from NT at his age btw..

He can't be a 90 minutes starter, which is an issue tbh. But he is still the one that puts the ball in goals.

Lewa is the least of our worries this season.

He's just tired, which is on flick, with his poor sqaud rotation, he's been playing 90 minutes in games he didn't have to because the game is done and dusted.

Winter break will do him well, in the summer we will need a replacement.

At some point in very season your striker gets cold and it's up to other players and your defense to secure valuable points, other players in attack have been doing enough, the defense has been shitting the bed.
